mouse problems

Post by khubali » Sun Oct 02, 2005 6:54 pm

I am new to this wineq 2.0. I had win 2k but upgraded to winxp sp2. After I did I could no longer switch characters in windowed mode in Everquest 1. A friend reccomended your wineq2.0 software and it sounds awesome but it hasnt worked for me yet. I am having the exact same issue that a previous poster reported in post "having mouse trouble since last patch". I cannot even get in-game before this mouse issue comes up and attempting to use scroll lock to release the mouse doesn't always work. Please help since I want to upgrade to full version because of the very cool sounding abilities, but if I can't even get the lite version to ork I may have to re-install win2K. DOH!

I'm really not sure what is happening here. The issue in the other thread http://www.lavishsoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2017 was actually that WinEQ was letting EQ take the mouse back when he was hitting the windows key and then trying to click minimize. And I dont know what you're doing with scroll lock that isnt working.

Please explain in detail exactly what keys you are hitting, and where you click with the mouse if necessary, what behavior you expect and what behavior is actually exhibited. All I know that you're doing is hitting scroll lock at some point, and nothing else about your situation

when i load in both accounts, i am alt- tabbing to switch accounts, when i do this, at som point, it doesn't always happen immediately, suddenly i have 2 mouse pointers, 1 in game mouse look, the other the windows mouse look, when i move mouse around, both pointers follow one another almost exactly, but the only mouse pointer that actually works is the in game mouse. if i click scroll lock, to release it, sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. If i hit windows key on my keyboard, the windows mouse points works and then i can regain control for a short time.

I wish I could say i know what's going on, but I really dont. My best guess is it may be performance-related due to running out of system RAM, from having your EQ settings cranked up to the max. You have 1GB of RAM, and each session is estimated to take at least 500MB just to log into the game. That doesn't leave much room for the system to breathe, and if you run any other software, you're really going to hurt performance and open up the doors to weird problems like this one.

If I'm wrong, I'll come up with another theory.. but from your sysinfo.txt, that's the only thing I can come up with at this point. I would definitely try dropping some settings a notch or two though.

like which settings? I mean, which settings would give me the best performance boost w/o changing my resolution, since this messes up the wondows placement in game.

ok, actually, i just noticed something when I went to change my settings. When I log in my first account, just as soon as I click on play everquest in the server select screen, the mouse pointer doubles. The in game mouse pointer stays on play everquest, the windows mouse pointer pops right in the middle of the screen and I can move it around. If I alt tab between IE and the account, I can fix it, but if I continue to alt tab, eventually iot splits again. Is there something I have messed up?

Turn off some unnecessary models, lower textures, lower sky quality, lower texture quality, disable mip mapping, etc. They're listed under EverQuest in your sysinfo.txt:
Luclin models: 29 (+145 min RAM)
Texture Compression: ON (+0 min RAM)
MipMapping: ON (+4 min RAM)
Sound: ON (+22 min RAM)
Dynamic Lighting: ON (+4 min RAM)
Texture Caching: ON (+0 min RAM)
Texture Quality: HIGH (+32 min RAM)
Sky: COMPLEX (+10 min RAM)
Calculated minimum RAM: 500MB (BASE+217MB)
When you click play everquest at server select, the mouse is automatically released from EverQuest. The cursor stays there in the game because EQ uses a software cursor, meaning it has one separate from Windows and it handles it on its own. You SHOULD see the windows one at this point, and also while the game is loading or zoning. While the windows one is visible, the EQ cursor should never be mobile.
