Bug/very strange crash issue

Post by eqneecro » Sat Sep 10, 2005 1:12 am

ok this is going to sound weird but when running single or multiple windows in everquest 1 I have random lockup problems when it begins to rain in a zone. the window locks up and then subsequently get a client crash. This problem does not effect both windows if I am running 2 or more at once and it does not happen every time the weather starts, but I have narrowed it down enough to the point that it does only happen while in game rain is taking place. pasted below is sysinfo file contents any help or advice is appreciated and ty in advance.

From the description, I'm not sure this would be WinEQ related -- in other words I would guess it would also happen without WinEQ. Have you verified that you dont experience the same problem without WinEQ?

My best guess would be sound card related, but again that is just a guess. Definitely check for drivers, though.

I did a WinEQ 2 update just now that should fix some stability problems. You can restart WinEQ and let it patch, and this may solve your issue.

yes I forgot to mention in origonal post that it does only happen while running wineq, its very odd as it does not happen all the time or at any sort of interval,, sometimes it will lock right as soon as the rain starts, sometimes it will wait a while after rain starts and sometimes it will not lock at all. I have updated my drivers because I know that can cause issues with games i always keep that updated on a fairly regular basis,, I will run wineq and hope that the problem is fixed with the last patch. Thank you for the response. I will check if there is any updates for my sound, I run on board sound by the way not sure if that has anything to do with it, its always worked fine so didnt see the need to run a reg sound card.

onboard sound historically is troublesome, and I've had problems in the past particularly with C-Media.. however I'm not going to tell you that's definitely the problem.

I will say, however, that it wouldnt hurt to try disabling the sound (disable it in windows or in BIOS ideally) and see if that changes anything. If not, we've lost nothing but at least ruled that out.

The only other thing that seems weird to me from your info is yahoo messenger having DLLs loaded in the process, but I dont think that would break anything like this
