Annoying issue

Post by HugePosse » Tue Jul 19, 2005 11:09 pm

I 3-box on a single computer, and I had never had too much trouble doing it until the last patch. Now, when I start logging my toons, my computer will randomly reboot. It also happens when I camp them out. I suppose it happens whenever the windows get to the server screen. The whole thing reboots and it can be very annoying, and possibly lethal to my toons if one or more are already on. Can anyone provide some advice?

Well, without SysInfo.txt we know nothing at all about your system. If you could post that, that would be a good start.

Here's the most common issues though:
1. Last August we determined that having VERTEX SHADERS off on some systems with NVIDIA video cards would cause blue screen and/or reboot, but only when playing multiple copies of EQ1 on the same computer (which is why SOE hasnt addressed the issue -- they dont support playing multiple sessions).
2. Outdated drivers. Make sure your video card drivers are up to date especially
3. Hardware overheating. If #1 and #2 dont solve it, you should check each and every fan in your system to make sure they are spinning correctly. If they're slow due to dust, etc, that can contribute to overheating. Overheating can cause physical damage to the hardware -- I just had to replace a GeForce 5700 last week that was causing the computer to reboot at random times very quickly after I launched a game. It worked fine for probably 8 or 9 months, and the fan was still spinning (though probably impeded by dust), and otherwise the card seemed to be fine, but is apparently damaged enough to reboot.
