having issues with Everquest
Moderators: Lavish Software Team, Moderators
Well, SP2 has been in use for almost a year now (longer for some), and the problems people had in the past have since been solved. Some people still avoid it, but I havent had any issues with it and I have a hard time seeing why anyone would still avoid it (other than business workstations where the company makes the decision) after this long. Either way, you should at least get SP1 and apply all the updates other than SP2 at a minimum. I imagine that'll solve the problem; let me know
Try moving the patcher(everquest.exe, I think) to other directorie(s) on other drive(s), if any. You needn't move the whole EQ directory, just the executable. If it works, I think it'll start downloading the whole game. In eqgame's case, it'll probably give an error.
But! If WinEQ can see/access the file from different areas, you could rule out some things... Though, the only thing I could imagine surviving a reinstall of Windows(did you reformat or install Windows on top of itself?) is your setting up account permissions the same way. IE does the Windows user you installed WinEQ for have permission to access the drive/directory EQ is installed in?
(of course, you most likely have no idea what I'm talking about. if that's the case, ignore me completely.

well that solved it! it didn't like my program files folder, so I moved my whole EQ directory just to the E drive and it works fine. thanks Cofcos!
and thank you lax for all your help! now that I got that working, any way I could get a test membership for a day or two to see if I can get the two monitor system working correctly before I buy? thanks a lot.

(sent as a PM first, but figured I'd put it here too in case other people wanted to read it)
thanks! now I'm having a whole new set of problems to figure out heh. I am getting extreme lag when I have two EQ windows open. how does EQplaynice work and what setting should I use to reduce that lag? also my second window is opening in the same size as the first one. I want it to open in a different resolution because my second monitor can't handle the same resolution that my first one can. any ideas on fixes for these? (hope this is easier than my last problems were)

Also, you should make sure to set your EverQuest fps limiting slider all the way UP, to 100.
For different resolutions, you need to set up multiple profiles, with at least one custom eqclient.ini file. For your second monitor, maybe change the custom eqclient.ini setting to "eqclient-secondary.ini" for example. Then just go into the game, change the resolution, and every time you load up that profile it will keep those settings.
If you want full motion video at the expense of CPU time, set background "Rendering Limiting" to 1 out of 1 frames. By default it is 1 out of 30, which means the UI will appear to "flash" every 30 frames (which with the background FPS set to 30, this would ideally be about once every second). The defaults of 30 FPS limit with 30 Rendering limit is actually very high performance, at the cost of some appearance of choppiness. If your background FPS limit set lower than 30, you should increase it to at least 30.Rendering Limiting (Subscriber Only)
EQPlayNice provides what we call Rendering Limiting, which slows the rate at which the game world itself is redrawn, while allowing the user interface to redraw at full speed. Because rendering of the game world takes a relatively large portion of time each frame, skipping this effectively makes the game run at a much faster framerate. Generally this is used for background game sessions, which may not be visible in the first place, or do not need to be full motion video. When playing several characters on the same machine, this proves to be invaluable.
