Does TS have playnice built in?

Post by darkrom » Wed Apr 06, 2005 7:53 am

Or do I need to download/run that seperately?

Thanks

It has framerate limiting built in, but it does not have EQPlayNice built in. If you need rendering limiting, you need to use EQPlayNice and turn off either IS's or EQPN's fps limiting. maxfps -fg -calculate 100, maxfps -bg -calculate 100... should do fine for turning off IS's.

My own issues..

Post by Red » Fri Jul 01, 2005 7:05 pm

In an attempt to search for my issue before asking a question I bumped into this thread. I am having issues with the background EQ1 toon falling behind while on autofollow.

I do not have this issue if I run eqindows. I spoke with a buddy and he said with EQPN that he had to set a setting to allow the background process to render more and faster or something.

So using the command you posted above, can I make it easier for the background EQ window to not fall behind while on autofollow?

IS has part of EQPlayNice built in -- the part that limits framerate. But not the part that limits world rendering, since that is game-specific.

Type the command "maxfps -bg 40" in the console and that should help a bit.

Well I gave it a whirl with 40, 60, 100, 200 values and I could not see a difference. After that I tried a mix and match of screen sizes for FG and BG windows with the same reslut.

I have multiple Athlon 64 3000, one has a ge5200 and the other has a ge6600, both are 256mg. System also has a gig of ram, WinXP Pro with nothing but EQ on them. Resolution is 1280x1024 for desktop and in game.

I box multiple toons up into the double digits, and in some situations the background process running somewhat decent is a necessity. Is there anything else I can try?

Very appreciative.

You should check the slider in EQ that limits your FPS and make sure it's set as high as possible. Past that, you can grab EQPlayNice and turn on rendering limiting, and use either the FPS limiting from IS or from EQPN (set the other to 100 foreground and background)

Ok, thanks. I'll give that a try. The in game sliders were set at 40FPS. I upped them all the way and it didn't help.

To try the latter, do I need to put the FPS limiting in an .iss or does it save if I just do it once in the console. Also, what is the default value for both, in case I want to change stuff back?

Thanks man,

IS doesnt save any settings for later use. It's kind of like Linux in that regard . I dont know if you've ever used Linux, but basically when you log into a linux console it runs login scripts, and in general when you apply commands theyre usually temporary (making aliases, etc). The same thing is true here. When you launch your game, scripts run and take care of your customization, rather than trying to figure out exactly what everyone wants to save and what everyone wants to leave temporary.

you can place the command in a text file you create called AutoExec.ice in the Inner Space directory, and it will execute it every time. Also note, when you type the command into the console, it only applies to the session you typed it in.
