World of Warcraft and WinEQ = HARD RESET

Post by rcw3 » Wed Jan 19, 2005 10:57 pm

Whenever I run WoW with WinEQ, I'm assured to have my machine hard reset / reboot during the first 15-20 minutes of game play. This occurs consistently whether I'm running 2 instances of WoW or just one.

No BSoD - just a black screen and the machine reboots. I have temperature monitors and such - this doesn't seem to be the problem. Again, it happens when I just run one instance. If I run WoW directly (w/o wineq), I can run for hours with no problems.

This is on a P4-3.2 desktop with 2GB RAM and a GeForce 6800GT.

Well, Eleven plays WoW with WinEQ constantly, and has absolutely no problems other than the crash on exit sometimes (which to be honest will stay in WinEQ, but is not experienced in Inner Space), so it's not something that generally happens. You don't see the BSOD because your Windows settings prevent you from seeing it. You can change the setting in System Properties -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery Settings (Automatically Restart). It is there, though. Theres no way I can really guess what's causing the blue screen. WinEQ doesn't have to change the way WoW works.

When you run WoW normally, do you play it windowed or full screen? It's entirely possible that the problem only happens when windowing, for example.

Blue screen problems generally have to be at the driver level; I would be pretty hard pressed to cause a blue screen with WinEQ. My suggestion would be to try different video drivers, make sure sound, motherboard, etc drivers are up todate, check for new BIOS, etc. Unfortunately I dont have any better solutions to offer you, other than trying another video card
