Everquest 2 Crashing

Post by gorandir » Sat May 15, 2010 8:12 pm

When i use innerspace to attempt to begin using a profile to open two clients for EQII, my system crashes both instances with the following message:

Fatal Error
EverQuest II has detected an unrecoverable error and must shutdown.
<Verify>E:\live\eq2\framework\render\src\veShader.ccp(10164):m_pPixelShader
0092f705

I can open and run two clients of EQ2 with no problem when i don't use innerspace.

The E: drive on my machine is the DVD drive, but it doesn't appear to be attempting to access the drive when this occurs.
The crash occurs after the clients display the initial splash screen, but before i reach a login or character screen. I've attempted to use both the Default & No Patch profiles. As well as created two separate profiles of my own, all with the same results.

Any suggestions or assistance you can offer is appreciated.

System Specs:
I7 920
6GB ram
Nvidia GTX285 Driver Version: 197.45
DirectX 10.0 (6.1.7600.16385)
Dual Monitors running 1920 X 1080

Well, it's an EQ2 error and so the file path given is from the EQ2 source code, and would indicate something to the EQ2 programmers. We can tell from the error message that it has something to do with pixel shaders.

There's a 6 page thread on the SOE forums regarding this error.
http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/post ... _id=393568
Some people have mentioned to me, and I see also on the thread, that this error can sometimes happen when launching with everquest2.exe instead of launchpad.exe. When you're launching EQ2 normally, are you using the launchpad?

You can try deleting eq2_recent.ini (and the ones for each of the characters) and see if that helps. I'll ask some of the EQ2 players if they know anything about this issue

Thank you Lax for the fast reply!

I switched to the Launchpad.exe file for both client directories. This did fix the crashing, but it generated a new problem. When i try to launch the two clients using innerspace, only one launchpad will load, i log in and see in the innerspace console that slot one is loaded.

However; the 2nd client doesn't load automatically, so i go back to innerspace and tell it to load again. In the console i see it report that it is loading the slot 2 character, but while it does start EQ2, it does not load the innerspace profile. Preventing the mapped keys from triggering in the 2nd client.

If i've now jumped from an innerspace issue to an ISBoxer issue, let me know and i will pursue this new problem on the appropriate forum.

Make sure the launchpad shuts down after launching the game? There's probably an option. If it's still open from the first launch it's not going to work right

Let me know if that's not it (and since this is all for ISBoxer I would have preferred this conversation to happen in the EQ2 section on isboxer.com either way, but that's ok :) )

The launch pad is shutting down after it loads the first client. So it doesn't appear to be that.

I decided to try another idea. I loaded the StationLauncher.exe for the 1st client, and the LaunchPad.exe for the 2nd Client.
It still didn't work. The first character/client loads correctly. But the 2nd just opens the game without activating the innerspace profile.

Below is what is reporting from Innerspace Console:
***** in place of character name are my edit

Ok.

Try switching to the development build of Inner Space and see if that helps.

To do so, right click IS and select Patcher. Check "Download development (test) patches" then close and restart IS. After it patches up try again

The development patch did the trick!
Everything loaded and is working in game.

One note, that might not matter. The launchpad (not the stationlauncher) now generates a windows unknown error when i press play, but the client still loads. It doesn't appear to interfere with playing the game, or with the IS functionality.

Thank you again for all the assistance.
