Default games listing

Post by hooch604 » Sun Sep 02, 2007 6:05 pm

Not a huge technical issue I'll agree but I absolutley cannot stand that my right click game startup list always has planetside and SWG in it. I don't have either game and despite removing any xml entries I can find, I.S. always repopulates that damn list.

Can I make these things go away permanently?

I should add that I also tried the "remove game" option from the configuration screen, but upon restart of IS.... the buggers are back in the list.

First thing I tried to do after buying the software was remove Planetside/SWG games only to find them come back after a restart.

Same thing with the EQ default and no patch profiles.

I agree it is annoying.

Any way to get rid of these things permanently?

Edit them out of GameDetection.xml and GameConfiguration.xml then make both files read only. Ignore the fact it asks you to patch every time you start InnerSpace.

Make a .bak backup of both files. When an IS patch is released that requires updating the other files, go ahead and do it, then replace these two files with your .bak's and make them read only again. If you are really savvy you will run WinMerge first to make sure he didn't add anything else that you may be interested in to merge in while still keeping those two p.o.s. games out of your menu list.

Also forgot to add you need to disable "Always patch on startup" for this method to work as well.

Having SOE's launchpad installed can cause this. For some reason IS sees it and assumes you're playing SWG and PlanetSide. This is taken from GameConfiguration.XML before I went into the Sony folder and deleted the Launchpad folder since I do not use it. After deleting the launchpad folder from the Sony folder and relaunching IS they're no longer there.

Code: Select all

It doesn't 'assume you're playing it' there just wasnt a better detection method for those games.

I'll add a toggle to hide any particular game from the list, but this is probably the dumbest thread to be honest

It's not dumb if a guy posts a problem and people come back with things to try or do to work around the problem. What would be dump is if no one even tried to help.

No.. what's dumb is it doesn't really make a difference if the IS menu shows an extra game, it's just a handful of people being anal about seeing a game they don't have in a menu they use a couple times a day tops ;)

As of now I've removed the detections for those two games from the next development build.
