IS session hang

Post by hendar » Wed Jun 25, 2008 9:44 pm

Since this is a new issue I'll start a new thread. I just had an IS session hang on me. By that I mean the window no longer updates its display. I can change sizes from tiny, normal to fullscreen. But no client updates anymore.

I'm not sure of the cause yet. This was on a desktop, and I was renaming profiles and logging characters in for the first time. I noticed that sessions would always start out fullscreen, and that I would need to log a character in and select windowed mode from the Everquest options dialog. So I figured I would get that out of the way.

I had one session running and started a second. The first session was the one which hung -- I wanted to check memory usage on that process and when I used the global hotkey (ctrl-alt-1) only the border drew. So far I haven't found anything useful in the logs. I plan on restarting InnerSpace, and possibly rebooting.

All sessions are running out of the same Everquest directory, and have separate profiles.

This is mainly an FYI, since I doubt there is enough information to do anything with at the moment.

And to hijack my own thread, rather than add even more at the moment: how do I get rid of games in the launcher? I can't seem to figure out the secret handshake so far.

I select "Configuration" then I click on the "Game Configuration" tab. From the drop down list I select "PlanetSide" (nothing against it other than I don't play). Now I click "Remove Game" and it is gone from the list and from the taskbar menu. But the next time I start IS the game is back.

I suppose I could go into the XML and delete it, but I am curious as to the proper way to clear these out.

On another completely new topic, the oddest thing just happened. I logged a character in and he was in a different part of the zone than where I last saw him. I believe he was logged into the session which hung, and was over at the halfling bank in POK. I logged back in and he was on the evil side in one of the buildings. Puzzling. I've never seen anything like that before. Well, there was the one time I went LD while running through the commons and logged back into an adjacent zone. I suppose something like that could have happened here, but he shouldn't have been moving (I was logging another session on at the time), and it isn't a straight shot into that building). I suppose I'm being a bit paranoid

Thanks for the pointer on changing the session names, that will be a nice touch. I'll get to that sometime after I figure out what is going on with my memory usage. I have long followed the advice on the WinEQ2 pages regarding memory usage, and have never been able to get close to those numbers. I have all of the Luclin models turned off, sound off, the social animations off, and I'm still pulling 800M+ per session. The armors 17-23 are disabled, AllLuclinPcModelsOff is true, the Vah Shir models are not being used. I have 500+M of free texture memory, but around 48M of system memory on a 3G 32-bit XP system. I don't see other apps chewing up memory, those 3 sessions are doing a fine job.

I'll update that I've gotten past the memory issue (or rather I'm not going to spend any more time on it). Memory prices being what they are, 8G of DDR2-1066 cost me $170. That should last me a couple of months, and I can turn the models back on.
