Vista, Innerspace, Glider

Post by Chelmarv » Wed Jun 27, 2007 9:21 pm

I have asked this at glider forums also just trying to get some insight. I just upgraded to Vista (well bought new machine). I have always used innerspace and just launched glider.exe itself.

The problem I am having is when I try to start glider with innerspace it won't attach. I'm just curious as to why it won't work under vista but will xp. To me it doesnt make much sense but I'm not a programmer so I'm not sure what the difference is. It actually can't find the process in Vista for some reason when launched through innerspace. Anyways any insight as to why this won't work the way it does in xp would be nice other than it just don't work. I'm trying to learn a little more on this stuff so its why I'm asking.

Thanks for any help or advice on the topic.

Couldn't tell you, I don't operate Glider and have never used it. If you want my advice on protecting Glider, launch WoW through Inner Space and launch glider separately. I am told you can find instructions for protecitng Glider with ISXWarden on the Glider forums. If you are somehow launching Glider itself through Inner Space, you're not getting additional safety or guarantees.

That's what I am trying to do. I bought a new pc and it came with Vista on it. On my old PC I had it setup to protect glider through innerspace. Glider attached fine.

I set my new pc up exactly the same. When I launch wow through innerspace it's fine. When I run glider.exe it opens glider but I get an error that it can't open process. But it works just fine in xp. If I launch glider through it's built in launcher it attaches fine. It only gets this error when I try to run glider.exe itself and on Vista.

I don't have xp to install it on new pc or I would just do that :P
I know its more of a glider problem, I'm just trying to understand as to why it can't find the process under vista and innerspace when ran directly, but it can when ran under it's own launcher.

Nothing is hiding the process from Glider. I don't know the answer here, it's absolutely no different than if you ran WoW separately and then launched Glider. You may have to ask Mercury.

Sounds like a permissions issue. Make sure you're running glider as administrator perhaps?

Was 32bit Vista. I called a few people and went a picked up a xp cd from someone. Installed xp, using same innerspace for xp and vista. Same with glider, same original folder. In xp, it attaches just fine, Vista it doesn't.

@Lax
Yea sent an e-mail to support and posted in the support forums as to maybe why. You are right though, it should be no different then opening wow, then opening glider.exe. This is why I can't for the life of me figure out why it won't attach when ran this way in Vista, but it will in XP.

I have tried to run it under run as admin, even tried in winxp compatability mode to no avail. Its almost like Vista won't let a Seperate process read a process unless it initiates the opening of said process. lol that probably didn't make sense but in my head it did.

Thanks for the feedback on this. I wasn't looking for a fix just trying to figure out what changed between xp and Vista to maybe pass the news to anyone else if they had the same probs. I liked the extra security of Vista but if my 2 favorite things next to wow doesn't work guess its xp for me for a bit :P Thanks again.
