Video Crash with Vista

Post by Kmmagic » Mon Jun 12, 2006 4:26 pm

When using Win EQ on 2 accounts with Windows Vista Beta my video runs really slow and crashes entirely in certain zones. Mainly the Guild Hall, once I get out of there I can play both accounts, but they are a bit choppy.

One account has no problems what so ever. With Win XP sp2, I could easily run 2 if not 3 accounts using this program. Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

P4 3.0ghz
2.75 GB ram
Nvidia Geforce 6600 vid card using Nvidia provided Vista Drivers.

My suggestion would be to use Win XP SP2.

There is little to any driver support for Vista and can easily lead to the problems you are having.

Try toggling accurate lighting or vertex shaders 2.0. There was some kind of bug with the guildhall soe worked on, and those alleviated.

I believe that the beta editions of Vista are also still running in debug so it will run fairly crappy regardless of what you do right now...

Well, you take the 3gb limit in the desktop version of windows (XP has it, not 100% sure on vista yet) and then you subtract out the memory space that the bios has promised out to other devices, like the video card, and you get your 2.75gb.

I saw a link to gaming tests comparing vista and xp, on a high end machine with farcry and some other things. They were pretty close, 5% variation or so.
