Having Available Texture Memory Problem

Thanks for assistance in advance....

Just purchased new system and trying to use wineq2 for dualboxing eq1. System is:

AMD X2 Dual Core 3800
4GB RAM
Nvidia (EVGA) 7900GT using 84.21 drivers

I had a variety of problems trying to get wineq2 to let me log in 2 characters at once. Only time I was able to do it was when my in game resolution on both session is set to exactly my desktop resolution (1280x1024), but eq still crashed after running for a little while.

Doing more testing this morning, I noticed that for some reason my Available Texture Memory drops to 0 when trying to load up second session. I am putting lising 3 separate sysinfo's. First, is my first session after logging in and waiting at the char select screen. Second sysinfo is the second session sitting at the login screen. The third sysinfo is from the second session after I have logged in and eq is trying to load the char select screen...availabe texture memory has dropped to 0. Any suggestions as to what is going on is appreciated.

eq crash error resetdevice() failed

Forgot to mention in my original post...when eq crashes, it typically crashes with the resetdevice() failed error message.

I received a PM recently from someone with a similar issue. They said that grabbing the latest DirectX (they put out unannounced minor updates every few months) solved the problem for them.

DirectX (February 2006) improves the graphics, security, and performance of your operating system. Download and install this update for your Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, or Windows XP-based system.
Given the nature of your issue, I believe that will be the solution. If not, well, I hope it's not simply because you're running Windows 2000 and not XP SP2 -- I am not aware of any major issues with Win2k, but it is possible.

I was sure I had the latest...but followed your link just to make sure....and it verified that I had the latest updates. I guess I will try XP and see if that helps.

Update - XP seems to have fixed the issue

Just an update FYI...I've gone to Windows XP SP2, installed EQ, WinEQ2, and logged in two characters no problem first try.. With both chars logged in, I'm running with 404MB available texture memory....and everything seems to be running fine.
