For those running everquest 2. How does it run.

Post by Tangogulf » Mon Nov 28, 2005 6:30 pm

I have been playing around with this amazing tool with a couple of games. Gotta hand it to you Lax, once I figured the thing out, it has run very well with both EQ and Wow.

I'm now wanting to give it a go with EQ2. However, I'm a tad concerned about system requirements of that game. In fact, so concerned that before I reactivate my account, I'd like to hear from other users.

My LCD monitor prefers a resolution of 1280 x 1024. In fact, in Eq2, things look a little crappy in any other resolution. At this resolution with balanced settings is what I prefer in the game.

My system: AMD 4000+, 2 gig of ram, Geforce 7800 GT w/ 256 ram. Yes, I know its a good system, but will WinEQ2 swap resources between whatever is the active window? I intend to try 2 accounts with PiP. Anyone tell me of their expereinces with two boxing in EQ2?

Thanks for any and all replies

Switch AMD 4000+ with X2 3800+ and your specs match mine (1280x1024 LCD, PCI-E 7800 GT, etc). Dont take my word for it since I dont actively play EQ2 (though I do have some character around level 10), but I will say that from my point of view and from my testing, 2 accounts wont be a big problem. The main thing will simply be to use performance settings rather than quality

Lax;

I can certainly live with performance settings. I think I recall reading on these forums as some point that, WinEQ2 will use limit the resources used in the non-active window...is this true?

Any other players out there who can share their experiences?

Well, WinEQ 2 does limit some resources, but not others. And depending on who you ask, it'll be different things. The true part is that WinEQ 2 has a FPS/CPU limiting mechanism built in for games other than EQ1 (which has EQPlayNice for that). This may have an effect on RAM usage, but it is not the purpose and that would be coincidental (for example, if EQ2 has a memory leak, the memory leak may be less prevalent with WinEQ 2 because it will run at a slightly lower speed at some points, such as while in the background).

I've got a p4 3.2 64 bit with 2 gigs of ram and a pair of gforce 7800's daisychained together. I haven't tried 2-boxing in eq2 yet but I'm thinking about it. It would be nice to know for sure if it works or not. Nothing I hate more then a laggy game.

I don't see either of those resourses as a problem.

I've run 2 instances of EQ2 on My laptop.
AMD64 3400+ Mobile, 1.5 gigs ram, and ATI 9600 Moble.
Admittedly I have to set high or extreem performance, but it is playable.

On my workstation.
Dual AMD275, 4 gigs RAM, dual 7800 GT's
I can run 2 instances in extreem quality, though I don't. I don't like the flora

EQ2 does have aproblem for me though. With and without winEQ2.0 I cannot run in SLI mode. I get device errors, they the EQ forums say are due to corrupted drivers. Funny how those drivers don't affect anything else, and work perfectly when I'm not in SLI mode.

Either way winEQ2.0 makes the switching between the 2 instances much easier and can mean the difference between winning or loosing a fight.
