Lax - Post Oct 4th patch - Wineq2 and eqgame.exe 99% cpu

Post by skeptic » Thu Oct 04, 2007 12:56 pm

Hey Lax,

With latest patch, using WinEQ2, the eqgame.exe now utilizies 99% cpu usage on my AMD 64 machine. Going through the launchpad outside of WinEQ2, everything seems to be just fine.

Have you restarted WinEQ / EQPN since you patched EQ? Lax mentioned that a restart of the app may be required for this EQ patch.

Did complete reboot of system which would meet that requirement yes. WinEQ2 works fine on my Intel, not on my AMD and it only happened after this patch.

This is still a problem. Lax, could you please look at this and help? I can't box without Wineq2.

You're not dragging the EQ window to the other monitor are you?

I am actually, why would that make a difference? It always worked before patch.

I can 100% guarantee that it wouldnt have "always" worked. I'm amazed that I've gotten several emails and these posts saying that it worked for some people until this EQ patch.

The proper solution is to never drag windows to another display. Personally, I've always told WinEQ which monitor I want a given session to appear on, and then I just leave it. However, I CAN move the window between displays and have it full speed, because something with Vista happens to make it work. I've NEVER had it work like that on Windows XP without additional software, and I've been testing dual monitor setups since 2004.

If it worked, you were lucky that something in EQ happened to make it work, and now you're unlucky that something they changed this patch made it not work. I don't know what it was that they changed that affects this, and I'm sure if you post on the EQ tech forums they're not going to offer support for it. But then again, if enough people are posting about it, maybe they will.

In the meantime, you can make it work by switching to Vista, or by installing software for your video card that makes it work. The nView utility that is installed with NVIDIA drivers is supposed to have some monitor spanning mode that will allow you to have this functionality. (for ATI users, the utility is HydraVision)

That is interesting because it has always worked 100% for me. What I typically do is load up Wineq2, MQ2, then launch the game. it opens on my left hand screen, then I drag it to my right hand screen and it was fine. I would then load up two more instances but leave them on the left hand screen.

I havent tried leaving it on the lefthand screen yet and will look into different software available.
