Vista Ultimate 64

Post by Baldmeter » Mon Jul 30, 2007 6:08 pm

I downloaded WinEQ 2 and did an install. When I try to run the program it tells me I need an update to DirectX. My Vista came with DirectX 10. I put DirectX 9c in the WinEQ2 folder. That didn't work. Where else in Vista(What folders) should I place DirectX 9c to get WinEQ 2 to run? I am new to Vista Ultimate and the file/folder structure is a bit different. Thanks in advance. By the way, I have EQ (not EQ2) running just fine on my 64 bit Vista.

Windows Vista ships with both DirectX 9 and DirectX 10, but does not have the latest updates to DirectX 9. DirectX 9 is updated every other month. To install the updates, simply follow this link..

and follow the instructions for installation.

Lax - Thank you for the link. I installed the latest DirectX using the link. WinEQ2 now loads and displays in the toolbar, but when I run the program I get the following message: "Could not successfully retrieve new file LavishPatcher.exe (-20) aborting patch. You may continue to use this software. Also, when I examine WinEQ2 in my toolbar there are no games displayed and the preferences display only one item "WinEQ2". It appears something still is not right. Suggestions please -- and thanks in advance for your time.

Since WinEQ patches itself in the Program Files directory, and Vista restricts access to the Program Files directory to administrators, WinEQ should have administrator access to start.

To do that, right click on the WinEQ icon on the desktop and click "Run As Administrator".

Thank You. Problem totally and completely resolved! WinEQ2 runs beautifully. As a new user of Vista (about a week) I have much to learn.
