Dual Monitor Question

Post by big23mike » Sat Mar 11, 2006 8:41 am

Hello. I am new to the program and user here. There are 2 questions I have maybe someone can help me with.

1. When i load up 2 instances of EQWin2 and put them on seperate monitor, the window I am currently not on begins to lag until i switch back. Is there a way to change it so it doesnt lag.

2. Does dual monitor support include making one window fit on both monitors for one big game play, if so how do i set this up? Maybe I missed something in the manual.

As far as computer specs I have the following:
P4 3.0GHz w/ Hyperthreading
Geforce 6800 GT Dual DVI
2 gig DDR PC3200 RAM
2x Dell 19inch LCD monitors 1905FP
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, neither of the scenarios you presented are possible with DirectX -- simply due to limitations of its systems. When using two displays, DirectX requires you to select the display to create the 3D rendering context for. If the window is moved to the other display, the rendering context was made for the original one, and has to switch to software rendering, which means that you'll probably get about 1fps while any part of that window is on the other monitor.

From what I understand, this limitation is due to the fact that each display adapter is handled separately on dual head video cards, and that you can actually have different video cards handling your two displays.

What we CAN do is help you select the display to place your game window on, which can be done in your WinEQ 2 profile. Make a separate profile for what will be on the secondary display, and select the display in the profile

Thanks for the reply Lax. I was able to setup the 2 instances of EQ, one on each monitor without lag. I modified a setting on EQPlayNice to a value of 1 on the inactive monitor. I also made 2 profiles to tell it where to load in each monitor. It is working quite nicely and makes boxing multiple characters a breeze. Nice program!

Thanks again.
