Global Hotkey Issue

Post by Vildayyan2003 » Wed Mar 08, 2006 3:05 am

Hello! First let me say that WinEQ and run perfectly for me for years now so Lax and crew, keep up the great work! Now my one issue. I have been 2 boxing for a long time now and have always used Alt Tabbing to switch the accounts. Now I'd like to start a third account but Alt Tab is clumbsy at best in EQ and I want to use the Global Activation numbers but for the life of me cannot get to work. They are currently set to [, ], and \ respectively. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong but its most likely not WinEQ but myself that is missing a simple step along the way. My rig I use yo play EQ is ...
Athlon XP 2100+ running @ 2.21 Ghz / MSI K7N2 nForce 2 / 1.5 Gigs DDR 3200 2.5-3-3-7 / BFG GeForce FX 5900 running @ 436/925 / Soublaster Live! X-Gamer 5.1 / Windows XP Home SP2 / WinEQ 2.13

If you need any other info just let me know.
Thanks, Vildayyan

I'm going to give you way more than enough information to answer any Global Activation key questions including yours:

The automatic Global Activation keys are set under EverQuest, Hotkeys, at the bottom of the list. There's 1-8, and by default they are Ctrl+Alt+1 through Ctrl+Alt+8. These are used per session when the profile launched has its Global Activation Hotkey setting set to AUTO. The hotkey can be set per profile, but then of course, only one session launched per profile will be able to use the key, because it would already be registered as a global hotkey.

Global Activation hotkeys, unlike all other WinEQ hotkeys, are governed by Windows itself. Windows restricts certain keys or key combinations from being registered as global hotkeys. For example, F12 may not be used as a global hotkey because it is strictly reserved by the operating system for debuggers.

To that end, it is entirely possible that the keys you are trying to use are not allowed to be hotkeys without added modifiers. Ctrl or Alt might help. Alternatively, you could try a set of keys like insert, home and page up. Also, when changing the global activation keys, you must close and restart those sessions after saving the settings changes before the change will take effect. Try some other keys, try adding modifiers, etc. and see if you find that some work and others do not. If you find that is the case, rather than some silly mistake, let me know and I may be able to make those keys work.

Ok, I finally got the hotkeys working by making new eqclient.ini files such as eqclient2.ini and eqclient3.ini. Thanks for all your help Lax.
