WinEQ2 bug with EQ1 Keyboard input going to both sessions!

Post by Multiboxer » Fri Sep 02, 2005 11:45 am

I've never had this problem until yesterday. I am running 2 sessions of Everquest on one machine. When I give a keyboard command to the session in the foreground, the session in the background is also taking the commands. This is causing my account in the background to take off running wildly and killing my group.

I can't reproduce the bug. It happens randomly. Today when I logged in two sessions, I noticed that on the background session, there were letters typed in the chat box that coincided with the movement keys I was using on the client in the foreground.

It's a very annoying bug and has made WinEQ dangerous for me to use. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you diagnose the problem.

Thank you,

I certainly agree that would put a damper on things, though I cant imagine why this would happen, particularly in EQ1. The problem is that EQ1 uses DirectInput (unless you use a non-US version of EQ), and the keyboard is used in exclusive mode. This means that DirectInput is not accepting input from anything but the foreground EQ window, because only one DirectInput session will have a lock on the keyboard.

My assumption is that there's other factors at play here other than WinEQ. Possibly virus or spyware doing something weird, so make sure to scan for those.

Past that, for me to help you I need to know a few specific things.
1) I need your SysInfo.txt that WinEQ 2 generates
2) I need to know exactly how you're switching sessions. Do you release the mouse and click on a session? Do you use alt+tab? Do you use global activation keys (e.g. ctrl+alt+1, ctrl+alt+2)? Do you use WinEQ 2's next/previous session keys (e.g. ctrl+alt+x, ctrl+alt+z)? etc.
If it is a problem with WinEQ 2, I *need* this information in order to solve it for you. Without it, I would just be shooting in the dark by trying anything.

hi hi LaX,

sorry i catch up on forums...
It happens form time to time that the input is going to both session at the same time... ( US keyb, US Eq version...)

The way i lived it is the following :

After a big lag peak, or after a long zoning on one of the account ( it happens sometimes that one account will take like 3 times more time to zone than the other(s) )... you end up having the display in foreground, as if it was EQplayednice ( ig you see what i mean), frame rate is lowered by itself , even if session is in foreground, and if you type , enter then toggle.. it goes on both session...

Usually u can do that a couple of times before one of the toons will get LD.
