Moving slowly in EQ1 w/WinEQ 2

Post by Markus » Mon Aug 22, 2005 4:30 pm

I just started using WinEQ 2 to play Everquest 1 but I am having a bit of a problem - The characters are physically moving slow. Very slow. For example, I press a key to spin around and a 360 degree turn takes around 6 seconds instead of the 3 seconds it normally takes. While running I seem to move about 2/3 normal speed. And when casting a spell the Spell Cast Bar is still showing time left on the cast after the spell already goes off.

Anyone else experience any problem like this?

For referance, I have all of the WinEQ 2 settings at default, and my EQ settings are middle of the road, which is to say all Luclin models on but most other graphics options are turned off. The PC is a Athelon 3400 2.2 or 2.4ghz with 1.5gigs of ram. The video card is an ATI Radeon 700 Pro PCI-Express.

Thanks,
Mark

Well, everything there appears perfectly normal. What framerate are you getting in the game? It should cap out at 40fps according to the EQPlayNice setting. If you are used to much higher framerates, you can bump up the foreground Max FPS setting to 80 or 100 or whatever (WinEQ 2 preferences, EQPlayNice, Foreground). Leave the background as is for best performance.

EQ unfortunately does use the framerate to deal with movement speeds and such, so if you usually have 80 fps, 40 fps might feel a little bit slower, but wouldnt be TWICE as slow.

I decided to reinstall the program, and I will let you know how it goes. I did not get a chance to check the framerate as I didn't know it was an option in the free version of WinEQ 2.

Thanks again.

Well, it's not really a WinEQ 2 feature. It's an EQPlayNice feature, and EQPN comes with WinEQ 2 :)

* Right click on your WinEQ2 icon in your system tray.
* Go to Options->Preferences
* Expand EQPlayNice on the left hand side
* You can set the limits under the Foreground and Background settings

Upping the frame rate to 100 made it work perfectly. It didn't at first, until I rebooted.

Many thanks, this is a wonderful program.
