EQ1: change the window size?

Post by JoeyRats » Mon May 02, 2005 7:09 pm

WinEQ 2.0 Lite, just running one EQ1 instance for now. How do I change the window size or just make it full screen? I'm running on win2k and can include a SysInfo.txt dump but I'm just wondering about some basic functionality that I couldn't seem to find playing around briefly in the manual or while running it.

I just downloaded this and it looks great, the way EQ should be run. Maybe I should just run Play Nice by itself since for now I just want exactly that: a single EQ window, but one that I can control like any other windows app, and exit with a click. Since I would like to try windowing it eventually I figured I'd jump right into WinEQ, but the only problem is that I can't make the window bigger. I normally run EQ at 1280x1024 on a monitor that size, but in SoE's own "windowed mode" so I can switch to other apps.

So does WinEQ Lite allow me to change the window size to full, and I just don't see the button? I see the manual showing several options that I don't have, some manipulating the window. Will the Lite version of Play Nice do what I want? I do like the idea of limiting the 3d rendering without effecting the UI or game speed, so might buy it either way. I'm not adverse to buying software that I like, I just want to understand what's going on, and even try the Lite version out some, and decide if I like it and will use it and determine if it's worth buying.

Thanks in advance :)

It seems that what you're not understanding about WinEQ is that EQ allows you to change the resolution inside the game, and WinEQ doesn't change that. It does add extra functionality, mostly for subscribers, but doesn't prevent you from doing anything you would be able to do otherwise except for putting the window in the actual full screen mode. Changing the resolution in the options editor from before logging in wont correctly apply the resolution changes -- you must do it inside the game, by hitting Alt+O, selecting the Display tab, and clicking Video Modes. 1280x1024 is on the list there. The special WinEQ window scaling stuff (e.g. tiny mode, full screen emulated, tiling, etc) are subscriber features.

The programs should do what you want them to do, and the differences between Lite and Pro are fairly clearly described on the "feature details" or game-specific pages for that application.

Ok well I feel silly about this post now. Looks like the default profile comes set to 800x600 but I didn't realize that since most of my EQ settings were kept. Also when I first ran WinEQ my EQ window seemed to be full sized but WinEQ was only showing a 800x600 section of it, but by the time I got past the server select screens that corrected itself, and it now works fine always with the WinEQ window size the same size as EQ.

What threw me off when I looked in the manual for some instructions was the Context menu shown there has about 11 options while I only saw Reset, Get system info, and 1 other on my Lite version. So yes, the Features list does state that the full version has "Versatile window characteristic options: Border, resizing (scaling), full screen emulation, always on top, tiled mode." I just wasn't sure if the resizing mentioned here is what I needed.

So thanks very much for the fast response, turns out I figured it out a bit later anyway, sorry for wasting your time. And thanks for making what seems to be a nice product available, I'm eager to start really evaluating it.
