Innerspace causing Nvidia Kernel Error.

Post by morthicius » Thu Nov 25, 2010 3:58 am

Since 2-4 days ago innerspace is no longer working for me.
I dual box on one monitor. I can make inner space load my character set of 2 wow toons with a little fiddling. The problem is if innerspace is running two instances as soon as i log into even just one of the two wow clients open the screen immediately flickers/becomes discolored unusuable (but only over the surface area of the game itself) I then get an error that NVIDIA windows kernal driver has crashed and is recovering. It wont stabelize until the clients are closed.

I tried comepletely reinstalling my nvidia drivers, even tried older stable versions and still nothing, same thing happens. as soon as 1 or 2 is logged in the screen will crash. Also tried uninstalling/reinstalling innerspace.. no luck. It was working just fine a few days ago now the last couple it's been nothing at all.

I can also load multiple wow clients without using innerspace just fine.

Are you on the development build, or the live build of Inner Space? The dev build (now 5337) was last updated on the 21st, but the live build hasn't changed in weeks (build 5326 on oct 30). If you think it's IS, feel free to revert to the live build instead of the dev build. If you're on the live build, then it's definitely caused by something else entirely (yes, I see that you say this happens only with IS, but something must have changed to cause this problem, right?)

What game are you playing? ...

World of Warcraft.
and i'm on build 5326.

And yes logic would point to some sort of change. there were really only two things I did. One was install Air Display http://avatron.com/apps/air-display/
Two was install a wifi Ethernet adapter.

I uninstalled both, still happens. One would think Air Display the likely culprit as it is display related, i contacted Avatron already and they assured there should be no lasting system changes if the product was un-installed. Furthermore I'm next to positive InnerSpace worked after installing it, but it is possible i have my time lines mixed up and I didn't try it. All the nvidia uninstalls and re-installers were also done after uninstalling air display so if it modified anything there it'd be reverted.

Ethernet adapter is unlikely, i uninstalled it anyway just in case but have done nothing further with it.

Past that I renewed my inner space subscription and that's been it. I'll give the development build a shot just out of curiosity see if that changes anything.

I updated to the development build, no apparent change.

However, I tried loading a different character set on a different realm and it's working fine. So my suspicion is now that there is something messed up in the original character sets profile, or perhaps an addon specific to one of those characters.

I'm in the process of tinkering with it some more and will keep this up to date on whatever i find.

For Clarity
Profile 1 will be the original profile i was trying, Profile 2 is the working profile.
CharSet 1 will be the characters profile 1 was designed for and they are the characters that were not working, CharSet 2 are the characters profile 2 was designed for that are working.

Profile 3 is a profile i made awhile back for Charset 1 to try different things.

I launched profile 2 with CharSet 2. That works fine. In the same profile launch i logged out and switched to CharSet 1's characters and it remains operating fine.

I tried profile 3 with CharSet 1 and that does not work.

Now it's possible i changed something in Profile 1 that caused this to start happening. However, i would not have changed anything in profile 3 as i only really used it the first day i made it and at that time it worked.

I made a completely new profile for CharSet 1 and it does not work.

From what you've explained I imagine it's probably a specific character in that set, and you might be able to delete that character's Config.WTF file from your WTF folder to reset it.

I uninstalled innerspace once more, deleted all access directorys/files. reinstalled the non development version. Made a new profile for the original set of characters... so now all Innerspace has is one profile listed, it does not work.

So i'm out of ideas.
