Windows Button in EQ1

Post by Smokeylizard01 » Sun Dec 24, 2006 6:51 am

Ok so ive been running wineq2 lite for quite a long time and wineq1 before that. Ive always taken advantage of how the windows button instantly gives you access to the taskbar and start menu to be able to do things outside of EQ quickly and easily and return to in game activities. Today i had a system restore failure and had to reformat my hard drive and re-install eq and wineq2.

The problem i am coming across is my windows key works fine to bring up the menu but as soon as i open the wineq2 window it becomes non responsive and wont pop up even when i minimize the window, weather eq is fully loaded up or not. Ive tried a couple work arounds, like installing different keyboard drivers and running a program that activate and deactivates the windows key. This works, up until wineq2 loads a instance of everquest and its totally unavailable again. Once eq is closed it works fine again.

P.S. i just realized this happens when normal everquest is open in windowed mode also so its not just a wineq issue. Any ideas would be greatly appreciate tho, as i have become quite dependant on the button and Ctrl-Alt-Del is just a pita.

Well nvm i had a flashback to when there was a patch to EQ and people using winXP had their mouse cursor stuck in top left corner... the fix for that was to install windows application compatibility toolkit and disable eq.exe, and that worked for windows button also =)

This generally hasnt been a problem in a few years, as most people have installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 since its August 2004 release. The compatibility "fixes" for EQ1 that shipped with the original Windows XP, which involved disabling alt+tab and the windows key because the game would crash if those were used back then (in 2001 when XP was released), were removed in SP2.
