WinEQ 2.0 Or Play nice.. not sure..

Post by vaen » Sun Apr 23, 2006 2:11 pm

I have been having problems since the last patch.

When I quit from the character select by hitting escape I get.

The instruction at “0x01ca1976” referenced memory at “0x0000003c” The memory could not be “read”

The app then terminates.

I have also been noticing crashes in other areas which talk about cannot read from memory.

I have tried it on both of my computers and I get the same problem.. I have done a lot of memtest86+ and I can verify that I do not have bad ram.

Any ideas?

One last thing. I noticed that at least for the character select thing. if I quit EQ1 by pressing the mouse button on QUIT I do not get the error.. if I use escape I do.

I am still getting odd crashes in game though.. so I am confused.

I'm afraid these are issues you and you alone are having. Your ram might be fine, but you've got something installed on your computer that is causing problems. It might be software, it might be hardware, it might be a driver, it might be lack of a critical Windows Update. Whatever it is, it's not showing up as anything obvious in your sysinfo.txt (you didnt shut things down to do the sysinfo.txt right?)

As far as reset device failed, that would be something between DirectX and your video card drivers. You should make sure you have the latest drivers, and make sure to install the latest DirectX -- the last update to DirectX was February 2006. You can get it here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx
What do you do to get the reset device failed error?

It is interesting that both of your systems exhibit the same problem. Can I see sysinfo.txt from the other as well?

Having read your post I did a test and reformatted my 2nd pc.. it was almost time for that anyways... I did nothing other than patch windows etc.. and WinEQ2 worked perfectly.. so yes.. something I installed on both PC's had to be causing it.. which is strange since I had almost no processes running.. oh well.. thx :)

:)

Let me know if you happen to run across an app that causes WinEQ to stop working properly, and I will see what I can do to solve the problem. There's a rumor that certain firewall apps cause problems, but I havent had any specific information
