WinEQ Crashing at startup

Post by gregz » Thu Sep 23, 2004 4:44 pm

When I try loading the default eqgame profile from WinEQ it crashes at the first EQ splashscreen.

I should mention that I'm trying to run WinEQ with WR(wintersroar.com), which has been known to be incompatible with some later versions of eqw. I would very much like to get your software running however, as eqw isn't working well for me.

Any and all advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

-Greg

What version of EQ do they use? I cant guarantee compatibility with really old EQ clients. From what I gather, it uses the December 23, 2003 patch. It's unfortunate that it crashes, but I cant easily support both new and old versions of EQ. Sorry :(

I'm having trouble finding the version information

Winter's Roar uses eqemu(http://www.eqemulator.net) which stays relatively current with the EQLive versions.

Do you know of anyone who uses winEQ successfully with eqemu?

Thanks,

-Greg

I'm aware they use eqemu, but they have the old EQPlayNice from January as their current working EQPN. This leads me to believe that WR is still using the same version of eqemu from december, not updating each time EQ patches...

Hmm, ok I'll try and run the question by Wiz(server admin). There's a number of people on WR (and in my guild) who would love to use this software, so it would be nice to determine if it's useable with a reasonable ammount of tweaking.

Here's Wiz' e-mail address (anward@wintersroar.com )

Please feel free to contact him and ask which version he's running etc. It would be great if you guys could start up a dialogue about this, if it works you can be sure to expect another 50+ users of your software in no-time.

OK I spoke with one of the developers of WR on IRC(irc://irc.eqemulator.net/wr). Here's a snippet of the conversation:
Wany Gregz, we use the client that was available around 12/2003 or so. If that helps.
Gregz For some reason WR won't work with:
Gregz http://www.lavishsoft.com/?p=wineq
-->| L0RdN00B (indreams71@HIDE-1D687E16.rosvle01.mi.comcast.net) has joined #wr
Gregz Wany: yep that's good info thanks, I'll pass it on to lavishsoft
So does that help you determine whether or not WR is supportable for use with winEQ?

WR will be compatible with OoW soon I believe. There's also a way to run WR with OoW:
[SA]EVILGibson Gregz, it is possible to get the OoW version of EQlive working with WR http://wintersroar.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2033

Gregz hmmm
[SA]EVILGibson It might be easier for lavish to work with the updated version that he needs to build for anyway
Does any of this information help?

Please let me know :?

Thanks,

Wany|afk Gregz, rather than bugging the WinEQ guy, just wait until we update WR to work with the current EQLive client in the not too distant future. No ETA but it will happen eventually.
