Window Creation Failed (0) and shrinks WinEQ display to 1/4

Window Creation Failed (0) message is displayed during WinEQ startup. WinEQ displays the game at 1/4 of desktop resolution. My desktop resolution is 1280x960 (16 bit) and I have the video mode within EQ set at 1024x768 (16 bit) with windowed mode enabled.

EQ is displayed at the proper size in a window if run without WinEQ.
Also, WinEQ was running smoothly without the Window Creation Failed (0) message and displayed EQ at the proper window size with my previous version of WinEQ v1.21 before I updated to v1.38.

I have Windows 98 (v4.10.1998) with 512MB RAM and nVidia FX5700 (256MB video RAM).

1024x768 is decidedly not 1/4 of the desktop resolution ;) Is the window a full 1024x768 window? If you enter the game, hit ALT+O, click Display tab, click Video Modes, you can set the resolution to the size of the screen.

The Window Creation Failed is from the patching process (see last few posts), which is why it was not seen in 1.21, and will be fixed shortly.

Wow, your fast reply is impressive!

I just updated WinEQ again to the September 18 version and gave it a try. The results are the same as with my previous post.

With this latest version, I tried the Alt+O while running WinEQ and toggled the EQ video mode from 1024x768 to 800x600, then back to 1024x678 (16 bit was kept constant throughout). The window size remained visibly unchanged at 1/4 of my 1280x960 (16 bit) desktop resolution throughout the toggling. However, the text clarity changed slightly within EQ during the video mode toggling, which is understandable.

Okay. I will look into it, the window size should be the same size as the EQ resolution

Come to think of it, the reason it's not the right size is probably that the GetWindowInfo call is failing (as is shown throughout the log). I'm trying to find the cause of this.

Woot! The September 19 version of WinEQ fixed the Window Creation Failed (0) message during startup and EQ is again properly displayed at the selected size and resolution.

I spoke a little too soon. Seems the window size is displayed smaller than designated if the window is positioned in the lower right hand area of the desktop even though the 1024x768 window does not touch any edges of the 1280x960 desktop. I will experiment to see how close it is able to get to the screen edges.

I encountered this situation because I often play with 2 EQ sessions at the same time.

The size is the same regardless of where the window is placed on the desktop. I'll check it though

Lax you are right. During my most recent test, I set the position of the WinEQ window to the upper left and it still was displayed at 800x600 size even though it displays at 1024x768 size without WinEQ on my 1280x960 desktop.

To complicate the matters a bit, this was only happening in the third profile of my three WinEQ profiles. So, I tried the remedy listed on your FAQ web page and used Alt+O within EQ to change the game resolution from 800x600 to 1024x768 and all was good. I repositioned the window back to the lower right hand corner of the desktop and it still ran fine.

In conclusion, I guess I somehow dinged my third WinEQ profile during some of my previous tests or during a WinEQ update even though I never directly edited the INI file.
