How do you get rid of the Fuzzyness

Post by radar168 » Mon Aug 30, 2004 9:43 am

Hello again. Thanks for answering the last post. I still have some questions though. Where is the Pro section of the forums. I signed up for a year sub. There are a few things I need help with. First, in full mode my EQ game looks fuzzy. Why is it like that. It does that on a normal game of EQ, but only when I do alt+enter. How do I make it unfuzzy. I tried normal mode with WinEQ, but no luck there. Thanks again for your time.
One more question. Is it better when I install the 2nd account game to have it in a totally different directory right? I think I read that somewhere.

Hello. if the pro section didn't show up for you, it should automatically show up for you when you look at the forums again.

When using full screen emulated mode, it may look kind of "fuzzy" because the screen gets scaled to size. It looks best if your EQ resolution is set to the same resolution as your desktop size. With real full screen mode, EQ will change your video card's resolution to its setting regardless of the desktop. It probably looks fuzzy because the emulated mode stretches to the full size of the screen.

Normal mode should not look fuzzy at all. Hit Reset window position through the context menu or hit SHIFT+ALT+R. If you set a custom window size or manually resized the window, it probably would look fuzzy.

If you have fuzziness problems in normal mode, post WinEQ.log and I might be able to identify other issues

Tried what you said, but...

Post by radar168 » Mon Aug 30, 2004 9:01 pm

Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry to keep bothering you. I did what you said about normal mode, but it seems all modes are fuzzy looking.

When I play EQ by itsself, before WinEQ, it was clear. I run it at 1152x864 or something like that. Only time it gets fuzzy and darker is when I do alt+enter, then I'm in windowed mode.
With WinEQ, no matter what mode I go into, its fuzzy or blurry some, as if i was in windowed mode on EQ. I tried alt+shift+r, but was still fuzzy.

Do I open EQ from WinEQ normally, to have EQ in the program or do I just click on EQ shortcut like I always use too?

I'll try posting the WinEQ.log here? Hope I got the right thing, if not let me know where I can find it.

I've never heard of it being blurry in normal EQ windowed mode. Blurriness is always caused by stretching in one direction or another, which causes distortion of the image. Stretching the same ratio in both directions will enlarge the picture but not cause fuzziness.

What *will* change with windowed mode vs full screen is the way gamma is handled. The brightness of the display will be much different, and the image might look more "faded" or brighter/darker, but not blurry... Are you using a weird Windows XP theme or windows shell replacement?

You must open EQ through WinEQ, yes

The file you posted is actually wineq.ini, but that's ok. It showed me your settings anyway :) If you don't see the .log .txt etc, wineq.log is the top one called "WinEQ" that is of "text document" type.

Open WinEQ normally, use normal screen mode. Lock and unlock the window size (through the context menu) and see if it's blurry one way but not the other. If it's blurry both ways, unlock the window size and slightly drag the window size. Open the profile editor and edit the normal screen mode for the profile you're using. Play with the screen size, and see if any particular size removes the fuzziness. Keep in mind that using the size of exactly 1152x864 will force the entire window including the title bar and borders to be that size. I'll probably make some changes to this soon that might help your issue.

Here is the WinEQ file, I think

Post by radar168 » Wed Sep 01, 2004 11:39 am

Thanks for the information. I'm not sure if i'll ever get WinEQ to work with it, till I can get the fuzziness gone. Atm I just open up 2 EQ games from 2 directories and play that way. I have WinEQ running in the back ground, but not sure I can use it when I open them up the other way.

I would open them up from WinEQ, but everytime I do and try to play, I can't read much when playing because of the fuzziness. Like you said, something it going on with the resizing or something. I'll post my WinEQ.log here, as least I hope I got the right one this time. Btw, my graphics card is a ATI Radeon 9800 XT 256mb or something like that. Talk to ya later.

OK. Problem is probably that your windows resolution is set to 1024x768, and the resolution in EQ is set to 1600x1200. Because WinEQ doesn't allow true full screen, it's going to be scaled down no matter what if you want it to fit on your desktop -- causing it to be difficult to read. Change your EQ resolution to 1024x768 or smaller, or your desktop resolution to 1600x1200 or greater, and you should be much happier with the quality of the display. I'll put in a notification when the EQ resolution is higher than the desktop resolution.
