Second session always crashes

Post by undies » Thu Jul 15, 2004 9:06 pm

The only way I can prevent the second session from crashing is to use the default profile. Even if I make a second profile identical to the first it still crashes as soon as the first EQ screen appears. I am just using the default settings. (the second instance crashes... the first stays OK).

What more information do you need than this?
(Athlon 1800, 512MB ram, Geforce Ti4200, Windows XP)

I am an EQWindows user generally... I have a complete second hard drive (on different IDE cables) installed with a nosound.txt file on the second installation... EQWindows has recently been randomly rebooting my machine during gameplay which is not so pleasant. WINEQ crashes whether I use the second EQ installation or the first (ie. using any second profile crashes it).

I like the features of WinEQ and will probably eventually buy it if I can get it to work (especially while EQW keeps crashing during play). I just have an observation about the game switching between the two. I have EQW set to toggle instances on SHIFT+CTRL and this is very fast. I cannot seem to get WINEQ toggling on SHIFT+CTRL.... I have to revert to alt-tab (which is slower for me to get my fingers to physically) or use the session cycling... (also slower physically). "Next WINEQ Session" and "Previous WINEQ Session" hotkeys dont seem to wraparound, which I presume is intentional. So is there any way for me to set up SHIFT+CTRL as toggle keys with just 2 sessions?

A final point... I certainly do not begrudge you the new format of free vs paid WINEQ. I'd just make the suggestion you try and keep all the help forums and info free to access... for example, if my questions here were already answered in the private sections, it would not do me much good and would not motivate me to pay for it if I could never get it to work properly. Kind of Catch 22.

Anyway, GL with the new format and hope it works for you.

Hello. -15 error is worked around by re-trying. I will be updating both WinEQ and EQPlayNice to help solve that problem later today. It will re-try on its own several times before erroring out.

Athlon 1800/GF 4 ti4200/512mb sounds almost exactly like one of my test machines, and I generally have no problems. WinEQ should be okay using any profile, but I will look into any potential problems. You can help us find the problem by a) opening WinEQ.log after a crash and pasting the last 10-15 lines of it, and b) opening DBG.TXT in your everquest directory (not debug.txt) and finding the last instance of "Fatal error in main thread". If you find that line, paste me that line and the next 10-15 lines and I should be able to use that data. If not, then the last 5-10 lines of DBG.TXT

Thank you for your patience, WinEQ is under constant development and I hope to have all of these issues cleared up very soon

I see you have EQPlayNice integration turned on. Have you tried disabling EQPlayNice integration? Also, what version of EQPlayNice do you have? 1.08 and earlier are known to crash. If this does not solve the problem I will try to use the information you have supplied to fix it for you

Okay, last few questions so that I know the system.

1) I see you have a Radeon 9800 XT. What version of the ATI Catalyst drivers are you using? I have tested with 4.6 and 4.7 successfully, but there may be problems with earlier drivers.
2) What version of Windows is this on?

Make sure to update to WinEQ 1.00 as well, your problem is likely solved. :)
