Everquest 2 won't always launch

Post by linkmaster » Mon Jul 05, 2010 1:53 pm

Using the latest build the game won't always start.

I click on the menu options to start my 2 sessions of everquest 2 , more often than not the everquest2.exe appears in my processes list in task manager , stays there for 2-3 seconds then dissapears.

If I reboot I can more often than not start the first session , but then the 2nd session won't load and run.

Went back to the older version and it's working 100% of the time.

Win 7 , 64 Bit.

Am I the only person with this problem? , I went back to the current 'offical' version and it's taking 3-6 attempts using the right click menu to start an instance of everquest2.

Try the development build (5208) rather than the live build (5170)

5039 still works every single time.

I am having the same problem with Build 5170 in Win7 64 across three different computers.

When the right click menu stops working, uplinks also stop. I have been killing IS via taskmanager and restarting until it starts working properly and sometimes it takes a few tries.

Will try the current development build.

Current development build 5212 seemed to have fixed the IS not responding issue, however I can't get it to launch ISXBoxer characters on other computers that are also running 5212.

Reverting to 5070 or 5039 on the secondary computers allows them to launch perfectly, while the main PC is still running 5212.

See http://isboxer.com/forum/viewtopic.php? ... 1765#p1765 for fixing that

Dev build 5227 is still not always starting everquest , I can keep trying and usually by the 3rd or 5th attempt it'll load...often I have to try and start multiple copies of the game at the same time to get one to load.

I've been running with sound off for a long time, but recently decided to try using Innerspace with EAX sound on again and while it no longer causes EQ2 to crash upon launch, unfortunately it prevents EQ2 from even starting. The process appears in the task manager, but the window never appears with latest development build (5227). The process uses about 37MB so it isn't getting very far in the loading process.

(only happens with Innerspace, if I launch the game directly with EAX sound on then the game loads and works without any problem)

Aha. Thanks for the information (and reminder), that sounds like a good candidate. I'll check around with some other people that were reporting this issue and see if this helps narrow down the problem.

I'm aware that a few people still have issues trying to launch EQ2 in particular with the newer builds. Did you try Multicharacter's suggestion of disabling EAX and/or sound? And if the old version works fine why bother with trying 23 times with the current version? ;)

It might help me narrow it down to have some diagnostic info though. With any version of Inner Space, open up the in-game IS console with the ` key (or F12 if you don't have that) and enter the command "diag" with no quotes. It should open up some info in notepad. Paste that to me here or in email to lax@lavishsoft.com
