IS issue initalizing multiple RoM sessions

Post by goneja » Wed May 20, 2009 11:10 am

Disclaimer: Totally new to IS, will accept user error as the culprit if you also provide a solution... :D

I have IS setup and using it for MBing RoM on a single computer. Its a dual-core box.

I can successfully run two instances of RoM, but only if I specifically map each session to a different core. Trying to allocate two sessions to a core, as seen in the tutorials, result in the second session failing to initialize.

I was trying to setup a 5-man group, binding two slots to core 1 and 3 slots to core 2. I end up with many failures at startup and most of the time, 2 sessions (one from core 1 and one from core 2) start.

I'm using ISBoxer to update the config.

Any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance!

What errors are you getting? I have a quad core and successfully ran 20 instances (not playable frame rate) as a test. Also try increasing the "Launch one Character every ___ seconds" setting to about 15 seconds

I have IS set to launch sessions at 15 second intervals, but have set it to 30 with same results.

The error I get is "IS failed to initialize session" after clicking the start game button from the launcher. I can run 5 standalone sessions so I doubt its the game or PC.

I've upgraded ISBoxer and have been trying to tweak the CPU core allocation, since that seems to have an impact.

I've dug through the RoM game profile and don't see any settings there to tweak.

Thanks for the feedback.

That one sounds like a launcher issue, rather than something you're going to be able to tweak to fix. I'll have to see if I can reproduce it

Thanks Lax.

I'll post the exact text of the error its throwing and anything I get from the console.

I get no crash report, nothing in the Uplink console, no error code along with the initializing error. I can get a MS crash now. Below is the info if it might help:

I can launch a single session, can launch two sessions if each is bound to a different core, but I have to specifically specify cores (don't know if this is assumed behavior).

Thanks!

Looks like a memory access violation. What is your memory stats like when you start that second session?

I tested again, and have ~900MB free when I start the second session.

I also suspect a Launcher issue, as I'm able to start many instances of RoM on the PC outside of IS.

I tested this on Win7 (same PC, didn't see if that was supported) and while I was able to start 5 sessions just fine, it doesn't look like the hooks are there for key/mouse binding or window placement.
