IS and EQ. A slight problem.

Post by WhiteWolf » Thu Sep 08, 2005 6:48 pm

Ok. Installed IS, watched it patch, then opened the window to see how well it works for EQ. Problem. EQ isnt listed. It found EQ2, Planetside, and SWG, but not EQ.

Ok, easy enough to fix, right? Add Game, Everquest. eqgame.exe, patchme, all that.

open the menu, select Everquest Default Profile. Ok, EQ is now in a 640x480 window in the top left of my screen (on a 1600x1200 desktop)

Then the loading screen and character select are stretched to fill my entire screen, completely distorting and degrading the image.

In short, something is wrong, and I'm not sure what.

EQ wasn't listed because it didnt detect it, so a) you didnt install from the installer (unless your installer worked differently, in which case you could actually modify the GameDetection.xml section for it and post a revision for me) and b) the installation wasnt in the (previously?) default path C:\Program Files\EverQuest.

If you manually added EQ, you need to add this for its "modules" setting: "eqgame.exe,testeqgame.exe,testeqmain.dll,eqmain.dll,eqgraphicsdx9.dll,eqgfx_dx8.dll"

well it seems odd that it would detect EQ2, PS, and SWG, but not EQ, when none of them are in default folders.

E:\Everquest
E:\Everquest 2
E:\Planetside
E:\StarWarsGalaxies

I added the modules setting, and it's still the 640x480 login screen, then stretched server select and character select (haven't gone beyond that)

That would seem odd, yes, if the only detection method for those games was checking the default directory. However, there are several detection methods available to games listed in an Inner Space game detection XML file, including registry keys, which are generally the easiest way to detect most games... including those you list.

As far as screen size, you can hit shift+alt+n to apply the "normal" preset to kill stretching, and once in game you can set the game resolution to your desired size.

the odd part is that it's detecting SWG, but not EQ, when neither of them are in the registry. by all rights, SWG shouldn't have been detected either.

SWG, Planetside and EQ2 are detected solely by the LaunchPad registry key.

GameDetection.XML

Code: Select all

<Game Name="Star Wars Galaxies">
  <Executable>LaunchPad.exe</Executable>
  <Parameters>/game:starwars</Parameters>
  <Detection>
    <AppPathKey Filename="LaunchPad.exe" />
  </Detection>
</Game>

I helped Whitewolf with this problem for a few hours, and the problem was actually rather simple... for anyone's info if they are having this problem, first off... EQ does need to be in your registry. (redundant statement considering the above) otherwise the patcher will cause Innerspace cease to recognize it every time you open it... unless you disable the IS patcher.

Second of all... could be an isolated incident, but Whitewolf's EQ changed resolution when he logged in using Innerspace, simply log onto any toon, set your resolution, and tada, problem solved.
