Innerspace problems :/

Post by Pieh0 » Sat Jan 10, 2009 12:55 am

Hi all,

been using innerspace for a good few month now and its worked fine until about a month ago, and now.

I downloaded one of the patches in december and found out that altho IS would run, the uplink window would show nothing but grey and when i told it to load a game, it would load it but not put the hooks into the game.

I solved this by grabbing an older version from another pc and copying it onto my laptop, but i accidently updated this one and both of my home pcs got updated as well.

Just find it weird that it worked on here before, and all of a sudden its stopped because of a patch.

Since the first time i had this and now i have reinstalled my laptop. Also heres a little bit of dxdiag info, not exactly sure what you need if anything.

It sounds like your InnerSpace.XML file is corrupt. You might need to just delete it (or rename it if you want to keep it just in case)

Interesting.

Okay, then firstly you should check for new drivers, particularly video drivers. I dont know what version you used that apparently worked but the only other related thing (to the uplink window showing nothing but grey) that I can think of changing might have changed several months ago, and that's just requiring a newer DirectX version (9.0c, yes, but that came out almost 5 years ago -- they put out updates to DirectX every 2 months). The actual graphics engine code hasn't changed for much longer.

Secondly, try shutting down other running programs. Certain anti-spyware or anti-virus software sometimes interferes. For example, Norton Endpoint Security and Spyware Doctor have been known to cause problems.

I will try finding newer drivers, but its quite an old gfx chip (Radeon 7000igp) so there might not be any new ones, will check anyway.

Also updated to the latest directx (the one you link to the most) and that downloaded the november 08 patches.

Hav'nt got any anti spyware or virus checking stuff as this is just a games lappy and can be reimaged at any point.

Ill post what happens with the updated drivers anyway.

Thanks

Right i've had a look round, and i have the latest drivers.

I have just reimaged the laptop and installed innerspace and the exact same thing happens.

Is there any chance of sending me the files from 3-4 updates ago so i can get IS back up and running?

Not sure what changed, but something must have in order to give me the grey screen of death :).

Laptops are kind of goofy as far as drivers go, so I guess I'm not completely surprised that yours happens to not work for some reason now. I don't know which version you last successfully used so I don't know which version specifically to give you, but build 4761 is a pretty good candidate.

Here you go:

Let me know after you've downloaded it so I know whether it worked for you
