Trouble with innerspace. Updating etc..

Post by Tux » Wed Mar 05, 2008 8:51 pm

Hi,

I've never had trouble with installing/using innerspace, until a few days ago when I reformatted and reinstalled windows xp pro and proceeded to install innerspace.

When I install innerspace everything went fine. I open innerspace and it downloads the needed files and during this it becomes un-responsive and although the screen doesn't state what is being downloaded it does sometime show in the taskbar.

Once it is presumably finished it closes. No it doesn't go into the taskbar it disappears. Sometimes innerspace.exe is active and other time it isn't after this happens.

I've tried telnetting to lavishsoft as per other threads, which went fine, i connected properly. Despite this I can not get it to work. I looked through all the other threads and have deleted innerspace.xml, reinstalled, to no avail.

When I reopen innerspace it keeps going through the same process.

I downloaded a copy which is somewhere in these forums (lax posted it for some new zealand guy), which works properly except I have a black uplink screen/ non of the screens let me do anything.

What do I do?

Cheers!

Well, if the patcher didn't patch in all the latest files, using a copy of another innerspace.exe might prevent you from being able to run the software at all.

Does your reinstallation of Windows have all of the latest service packs, critical updates, latest DirectX, etc? If it doesnt at LEAST have Service Pack 2 (assuming this is 32-bit XP) then I could see potential problems.

What is happening when you first install IS, is the installer you download from the web site installs a trimmed version of Inner Space that is only able to download and install the latest files (which is why if you use a partial copy from somewhere else it may not work). When it finishes downloading them all, it then runs LavishPatcher, which will restart IS after it unpacks the files it was given. If LavishPatcher fails, it SHOULD pop up a message explaining the problem, but it's possible that something went wrong that isn't handled. For best results, ensure that service packs are installed, and try running the software as an administrator user (which should eliminate the potential of not having permission from Windows to patch Inner Space).

For the people that deleting innerspace.xml is the suggestion for, they've already had Inner Space running for some time, and it will seemingly randomly start not working at all - a black screen, no games listed in the game launch menu, and so on.

Let me know if this helps

Hmm,

Windows Update says there are no updates left that i need even optionally.

It's service pack one with directX web updated (one of the first things I used).

I have managed to successfully run innerspace in the past but since my (now) 2 reformats I just can't get it to work.

What happens is this (I have the bad habit of working as admin so thats no problem):
-Download copy of innerspace.exe from lavishsoft.com
-Run downloaded copy of innerspace
-Innerspace installs
-Start Innerspace
-Innerspace does it's update
-Innerspace closes on it's own at various points not at a particular one
-Innerspace leaves me with 0kb files
-Reopen innerspace which starts to update
-Innerspace closes again

I tried using the .zip file you uploaded in this thread to get me started after so many fruitless attempts:

And I guess you can see how the rest of it goes.

You're on 32-bit XP and only SP1 is installed? As per the downloads page: "Inner Space - Windows 2000 or later. Windows XP (SP2 required when using Windows XP) or Windows Vista highly recommended."

Make sure that SP2 is or gets installed, or there is no guarantee that IS will run at all.

_______________________________________________________
After a fresh removal of innerspace (even removing the Lavishsoft entry in my registry).

These are the files I have:

Code: Select all

InnerSpace.exe - 380kb
Lavish.dll - 112kb
uninst-InnerSpace.exe - 33kb
Running innerspace, it gets upto LavishPatcher 40% then bombs out no errors

The files I now have:

Code: Select all

/.NET Programs
/Extensions
/Interface
/Scripts
InnerSpace.dat - 2kb
InnerSpace.exe - 380kb
InnerSpace.log - 3kb
Lavish.dll - 112kb
PatchDownload.xml - 1kb
uninst-InnerSpace.exe -33kb
Will post again when I get a semi successful result (sometimes it goes futher through when I start getting some nice dlls etc..).

Sorry for the bother.

I'm going to try with sp3 RC 2 in a minute, see if that changes anything!

As I said I'm sorry for the bother I am causing you!

My subscription ends on tuesday December 02, 2008 so I'm pretty sure I'm ace in that aspect.

Just my luck.

(I wanted to get my bot up and running now that I'm back at uni and have no time for games =*( )

Hope either you or I stumble upon a solution =)

Cheers,

I think I'm experiencing some kind of packet loss or something corrupting what I'm downloading, It doesn't work on my laptop(2gb RAM 9500GS video) running windows vista ultimate (with admin privilidges enabled on the innerspace shortcut and allowing every UAC popup). Is there anyway I can solve this without changing ISP/Modem Hardware?

I've tried reinstalling sp2 and with sp3 in windows xp to no avail.

I haven't got any errors pertaining to availability of servers or anything.

My tracert to lavishsoft went correctly as well, and my ping averages 300ms (which isn't too terrible from australia with medium speed connection).

I would love if you could think of any resolutions bar changing ISP (which will be happening soon enough anyway).

Cheers,

I installed the file you gave me above and that seemed like a 1/2 fix. I now see the icon next to the clock. The only thing that does not work is some Txt file. but it runs! so, Yay!

If you're using Windows Vista, you may need to right click the icon and select "Run as Administrator" instead of launching the app by double clicking. This will allow Inner Space to patch properly.
