Inner Space Generating Unreadable Characters

Post by Rataluge » Sat Apr 21, 2007 7:31 pm

So, I just started up with Inner Space, and I am having a problem already. When I start up Inner Space, it goes to the taskbar just fine. Right-click, and all of my options are there. Once I doubleclick, however, the program takes on a very odd problem. Most of the text in the program is replaced with unreadable characters

Also, when I start WoW, I have the same problem up in the IS display (top left corner.) I am running WoW in windowed mode.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling (except that I couldn't find an uninstaller, and didn't find it in Add/Remove programs, so I just deleted the file directory) Anyone have any idea what this is and how to fix it?

Basically it appears as though one or more of your windows fonts is corrupted. Reinstalling Inner Space will never change anything to that effect, because it's not something that Inner Space is actually depicting, it's just selecting a font and telling Windows (through D3DX, a standard system used by many many Direct3D apps) to draw some text.

The font that is not working properly for you is Courier. Clearly, Bradley Hand ITC, Tahoma and Verdana are just fine. But, something is wrong with your Courier font.

I was starting to think about fonts myself, but I would have no idea which font to look at. I will fix it right after I post this and let you all know if it worked. Thanks for the speedy response.

Alright, that fixed it right up. Thank you very much.

Just in case anyone has this problem later, the easiest way to fix it is to make a folder in which you can backup all of your fonts. Go to control panel, and open up your fonts file. Drag every one of them into this backup folder. Restart Windows in safe mode. Once it has fully loaded, restart in normal mode. Now it is working.
