Crashes on starting EQ
WinEQ2 loads fine, but crashes whenever a profile for EQ tries to load. Worked fine up until this morning. Now cant get it to load everquest.exe or eqgame.exe. I can run EQ just fine through the normal Everquest.exe method, just not through WinEQ2.

You appear to have a trojan (type of virus) on your computer, and this is exactly the type of thing that causes the described crash. Please run a well known virus scanner, and a well known spyware scanner.Module 47: c:\program files\common files\aol\1149179984\ee\services\search\ver2_0_39_1\injectDll.dll
Free and good virus scanning: AVG Free - http://free.grisoft.com/
Also free+good virus scanning (this one doesn't require you to install a virus scanner): Trend Micro House Call - http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Free and good spyware scanning: Windows Defender - http://www.microsoft.com/athome/securit ... fault.mspx
Also free+good spyware scanning: Spybot Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
There are many virus and spyware scanners that are not safe to use, so do not download one that isnt well known. The ones listed above are the best free solutions that I'm aware of, and are very popular.
After further messing around I found out that the newest version of the AOL Safety and Security Center is what is blocking it. It uses McAfee for most parts of it and is free to anyone with a free AOL mail account. There was an update 2 days ago apparently. Turning off the virus/scanmail/firewall doesnt help at all, you have to uninstall it entirely to get WinEQ2 to work that I have seen. Since I use this I wont be uninstalling it again. I'll just have to go back to using SoE's windowed mode again.
Thanks.
Thanks.

If you are willing to listen to a fairly expert users advice, Mcaffee and Norton are both garbage. Aol crap like this is garbage. The vast majority of the time these three programs are responsible for computer slowdowns just like the viruses and spyware they try to protect you against.
The recommendations that lax made above are solid suggestions on how to make your computer run better.
