i decided to name the presets the same way i named the profiles, 1-4, which turned out to make things rather confusing so ill refer to them as P1-P4. i saw no way to make the WinEQ instances use the window presets, so i opened the WinEQ-EQ.ini. i found both the preset and the profile settings stored there, as well as some hotkeys that i did not see in the WinEQ2 menu for EQ. after much frustration and playing with the hotkeys as well as closing and reloading WinEQ instances multiple times, i finally realized that the naming convention for the presets in the ini is a bit awkward.
in the profile settings in the WinEQ-EQ.ini, there is a setting that says Preset=0 by default. my custom presets started at 4, so that P1 = Preset4, P2 = Preset5, etc. at first i thought the Preset=0 was simply an off switch, but it actually refers to the Preset1 - which is very strange - because all of my WinEQ instances were using the window position for EQ2, which is NOT the same as default ... which is Preset1 ... that the Preset=0 was referring to.
the solution of course was to manually edit the profiles to use their corresponding preset numbers, minus 1 to compensate. there are a few things i dont understand though, and i thought maybe it was due to some error or oversight instead of actually being intended to behave this way:
- why is the naming in the WinEQ-EQ.ini screwy regarding the presets? the ini keys are named [Preset1] - [Preset7], so i assumed that when the entry for preset under the profiles would use "Preset1", "Preset2", etc
- why isnt there a way to change this using the preferences menu? i can see the hotkeys for activating the presets in the ini file but not in the menu, but even activating one via hotkey doesnt switch the profile settings to use that preset.
- if setting Preset=1 points to "Preset2", why doesnt Preset=0 point to "Preset1"?
- why was Preset=0 using the settings for "Preset5"? or was it not using those settings, and the window position was just a coincidence? (x=67, y=71)
- why isnt the window position just stored in the profiles themselves instead of needing custom window presets?
im really not trying to sound derrogatory or demanding; i just cant shake the feeling that either the program is not intended to work this way, or i am doing something horribly wrong.
heres the sysinfo if you still want it:
i can send my WinEQ-EQ.ini as well if that would help.WinEQ 2 System Information
