Low memory warnings since 14th

Hi , ive been using wineq for long time with the eqplaynice plugin . never have any problems.

I play 2 accounts with wineq on 1 computer , but a couple days ago (around the 14th ) As i log in my second account , It flashes the LOW PHYSICAL MEMORY on that screen . I have never had this problem before , i have not changed anything in the way i play or my settings.

I play with everything on max low , each instance it says takes about 313 MB of ram to run . I have a GIG of ram , and i run no other background programs except Nortons. My virtual ram is set to 4096 . When i look in my system it shows me having plenty of ram left and plenty of commit charge . And i can play all night , it doesnt crash or show any signs of lag . But it gives me that low memory message from wineq when i log in that second account . And it only started doing it like two days ago. And there is NO way that im low or out of memory , impossible. Seems something in the most recent change / patch to wineq has caused this.

The useage stats also dont seem to match up when i click "get sys info " in wineq , compared to my useage stats in my computers task manager , the wineqs shows me using more than i actually am.

But like i said, i have not changed anything in my playing 2 instances in months, it just started giving this msg like 2 days ago. and it doesnt crash me or anything but i am wondering why it tells me that.


This is for Everquest 1 that i am running it with.

That's all well and good, except for the expansion that just came out a couple days ago and did a major patch to your client whether you bought the expansion or not. :)
My virtual ram is set to 4096 . When i look in my system it shows me having plenty of ram left and plenty of commit charge
Virtual RAM is stored on your hard drive, if you run out of physical RAM and start having to store EQ's memory on your hard drive, you'll experience constant slowdowns. Setting it to 4096 is pretty useless, really. Even if you were to use 512MB of the virtual memory, that means that 1/3 of your programs are stored entirely on the hard drive, and instead of 1 nanosecond to access the "memory", it would take 10 milliseconds. Huge difference! Commit charge is the amount of physical RAM plus the virtual RAM, which isn't entirely useful. I have 2GB of RAM, and my commit charge says I have 3941MB. However, I would not want to be over the 2GB of physical RAM (which does not include virtual memory, thus called virtual) at all.
And it only started doing it like two days ago. And there is NO way that im low or out of memory , impossible. Seems something in the most recent change / patch to wineq has caused this.
If EQ never changed, that would be a great assumption. :) Unfortunately, WinEQ is getting this information directly from Windows. It's not making it up!

Unfortunately it's all guesswork until you provide quantitative details, rather than qualitative. Log into both sessions, and on each, shift right click (or release the mouse and right-click on the window's title bar), and click Generate System Info. Copy and paste the sysinfo individually here. This will show exact numbers for how much RAM is in use, how much RAM each session is predicted to use upon entry, and so on.

Well if i was trully low on ram woudnt i experience some kind of slow down in some form? both instances run 100% smooth , even if in pok or bazzar , nothing crashes . i zone in like 10 seconds while on both , can do 360 circles on both and no lag , no harddrive running , just seems no reason for it to be giving this message all of a sudden.

oops ccoudnt find the edit button wanted to add something else :P

The msg didnt show up till last night , and that wasnt after their new expansion , that was on the 12th i think , this started after i patched wineq.

And if i got everything on extreme low , and it saying i use like 313 per session , how does that = enough to make me run out of ram like it says. I dont have web up , msn , or anything. ill put those infos for sys up tommorow ,its late now .

And would subscribing lower anything for me , the pro eqplaynice , or would that just lower the CPU %.

EQPlaynice Pro only effects your CPU usage, though it does so quite significantly.

Being LOW on memory is different from being OUT of memory. The low memory warnings are indicating that very soon, you will be out of memory, at which point you may experience system crashes (blue screens), or hard drive thrashing. It is just an indication that you may need to close down other programs, turn off a graphics setting, etc.

Also, the RAM tables were made about a year ago with old expansions. Every new EQ expansion increases the amount necessary to run the game by some amount -- sometimes a lot, sometimes a little. In this case, I have no idea if you have the expansion or not, nor do I know if you are getting it in new zones or old. With Omens of War, for example, people would constantly say that they have higher memory usage and such in the new zones. So this is actually kind of important for me to know -- I'm trying not to assume that you have the expansion and are in those zones, because not everyone would

I do have the newest expansion , but this happened in OOW zone and in a POP zone , have not went to new expansion with both yet. Im gonna increase my memory to 2 gigs though .

It does not matter what zone you were in. Every time SOE releases an expansion or any "feature" the size of the game increases its memory footprint.

You could have all the expansions up to Kunark (which would be all of 1) and the memory footprint of the game would continue to increase every expansion / feature.

:cry: I had this proble when I was running 1GB of memory. Increased it to 2 GB and the memory went away until recently...... No more memory slots and matched pairs of expensive ram.

Not going to spend over £200 for new memory (CL2) will put up with the message.

Hmm 2 gigs of ram and you are getting that message now too, Do you play on high settings ? I cant imagine each instance using a gig of ram unless you have high settings .

Here is a sys info after having both instances in game for about 15 minutes . My free phsyical memory is almost up to 460 MEGs now (still going up as im typing this) and i can turn on both and no HD running or slow downs etc.

One last info , this is after about 3 hours of playing both instances ,. This is about where it stayed at far as ram free , still no lag , or slowdowns, or slow zoning or anything . Seems just says im down to no ram when i load in second eq , but from there on it frees up a bunch.
