WinEQ 2 video lag in EQ1

Post by Jon100 » Tue Jul 12, 2005 9:18 pm

Hi Lax + Lavish,

I've just this last couple of days been experimenting with using WinEQ2 as a replacement to EQW 2.47. I run three computers, usually with 2 EQ characters per box.

So far I like what I see in WinEQ 2.08 (better windowing, better use of ram, no problems with sticking keys, 32bit colour etc) but I've found that on my main computer WinEQ2 is having *massive* video lag trouble. :(

When I zone I get 2-4 minutes of insane lag (video drops to ~5fps) and after that settles down to act normally. (I dont have this trouble when I run eqgame.exe or EQW). I suspect it is related to texture caching.

I am keen to swap to using WinEQ full time if this can be resolved. Can you suggest a solution please?

Regards,
Jon100

Windows XP. ;)

Seriously though. I heard about this issue you're having so long ago, I dont even recall what it was. First thing I would do is try disabling other software - MQ2 and even EQPlayNice, to see if something is happening with those. If that doesnt point anything out, I would uninstall video card drivers (for NVIDIA you can just use add/remove programs and hit uninstall) and then install them again. There has been lag issues with WinEQ in the past on some systems that were solved by doing that.

Let me know how that works out and we'll go from there if necessary

Ok, still got insane lag :(

Drivers: un-installed and re-installed.
MQ: not running.
EQPlayNice (standalone): not running.
EQPlayNice (built into WinEQ2): was not able to find how to disable.

Any further ideas please? Aside from upgrading to XP ;)

You can disable EQPlayNice in WinEQ 2 by going into the settings and under EverQuest, General, set EQPlayNice to OFF.

You can also try playing with EQ's FPS limit slider, which according to your sysinfo.txt is set to 50. With EQPlayNice, you want that slider all the way up (at 100)
