Graphics card for multiple instances

Post by scinti » Wed Jun 13, 2007 2:11 pm

Hey all, I'm going to purchase a graphics card and will be running multiple instances of eq1. They are about the same price, while one is 256mb and 8 pixel pipelines and the other is 128mb and 12 pixel pipelines. They are both 128bit. They are listed respectively below.

My problem is obviously which to get, but my actual concern is whether or not the 256mb is necessary as each instance takes up 30-50mb. So, is it necessary to have 256 and sacrifice the pixel pipelines if I were to run 3 instances of eq, or can I stick with the lesser RAM?

Also, any opinions on quality of each card etc are welcome. Thank you.

Well, 128 will be enough for 2 instances of EQ TODAY, but what about the next patch / expansion / character model?

Simply because of memory I would recommend the 256mb card.

I strongly agree. You're much better off in the long run going for the slightly slower card with more texture memory, even if you have a ton of RAM on the motherboard.
