I know that this is probally not a WinEQ problem. just wondering if anyone knows how to fix this..
When i install (or attempt to) wineq 2 on my vista build 5270. it fails to install due to.
"Error opening file for writing: "C:\Windows\Lavish.dll"
Any ideas?
WinEQ2 And Vista 5270

Hmmm that shouldnt break the install process. We put Lavish.dll in the Windows path so that it will be in the DLL search path when launching games. It doesnt REALLY have to be there, there's other ways. But, it sounds like what's happening is the Vista security is blocking unauthorized file writes in the Windows path, and confusing the installer. I'll have to fix the install script.
Yeah. it does look like a perminssions thing. some reason, they have that users cannot write to the windows folder. and atleast in the beta. i cannot change the settings to allow me to. Check boxes are there. but i cant change them..
Guess i will have to go back to XP. cant play WoW w/o wineq.
Another option. see if it will even work before i attempt it..
If i was to put the install directory of wineq on D drive (using xp) and reinstall vista. would i still be able to run it? or would i run into the same problem. i know that you can do this on xp. just not sure if the program will attempt to place that dll back in the windows dir. once i run it the first time.

Permissions fix.
This can all be fixed with the simple compatibility tab. Right click the executable and select properties, then go to the compatibility tab. There you can tell it to run in compatibility for Windows XP SP 2, and also check the "Run as an Administrator" at the bottom. This will prevent any "Can't write to" errors that you get.
