Win EQ and WoW

Post by Stormquake » Wed Jul 09, 2008 10:53 am

I just renewed my subscription after a year long hiatus. I used this program for a long time with EQ 1. I nevered have tried it with WoW. Blizzard is notorious for banning. Is there anything that supports that this program is ok for use with WoW. I am interested in finding out.

Thank you.

I have just the information you are looking for. :)

In July 2007, Blizzard detected WinEQ 2 as "unapproved third-party software". This coincided with a ban on Inner Space users for the same reason, and it would appear that WinEQ 2 users were inadvertently included in those bans. Fortunately, all known bans for WinEQ 2 usage were overturned, and users were given 2 days on their World of Warcraft subscription as compensation for the error.

Blizzard will likely never officially "approve" of any third party software, for liability reasons, but short of an announcement from Blizzard about WinEQ 2, this is about as good as it gets. If that doesn't imply that it is okay to use with World of Warcraft, straight from their banning department, then I'm not sure what would.

Here are references you may read regarding the July 2007 WinEQ 2 bans and the subsequent restatement of these customers' accounts.
