Just purchased Pro, seeking help.

Post by Ardag » Sun Feb 17, 2008 5:45 pm

I have been playing Everquest 1 since its public release.
I had used WinEQ2 a few years ago to two and three box with no issues, but then I took a two year break. I just started back a few weeks ago, and I recently started up my second account again. I downloaded WinEQ2 lite and have been using that for like two weeks now. Today I decided to go with the pro version, so I set up my subscription.
I DL'd the pro version, and attempted to log in to play both of my accounts.
Before with lite, my windows were not "full screen", I had them set so I could see the tile bar and could window out, or swap between toons easily. Now with using pro, I get a full screen, I cannot seem to window out unless I use the option for Tiny screen, which eventually reverts back to full screen if i try to resize it.
I have looked on the forums and have tried to change the preferences, but I cannot seem to figure out how to get WinEQ2 back the way I had it just earlier this morning.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, here's the relevant part of your sysinfo for what you're saying
Adapter Display Mode: 1024x768 D3DFMT_X8R8G8B8
Game Display Mode: 1152x864 D3DFMT_UNKNOWN (Windowed)
What this tells me is that you play in a game resolution of 1152x864, and your Windows desktop resolution is 1024x768 -- which means the window you're playing in is going to be larger than your Windows desktop. With WinEQ 2 Lite (or without WinEQ 2 at all), EQ is shrinking the game display to fit in a smaller window. WinEQ 2 allows the window to be full sized. To get the old behavior back, turn on "Don't Normalize" under EverQuest, General in the WinEQ 2 preferences window. Alternatively, you can change your desktop resolution to be larger, or your EverQuest resolution to be smaller. Additionally, if you want to change whether the windows taskbar appears over or under the window, try toggling the "Lock Size" option (right click on the game window's title bar, and select Lock Size. if you can't see the title bar, you can also shift+right click by default to get the same menu).

Let me know if this helps

Lax, thanks for the quick reply.
I tried what you suggested, I made my desktop size a bit larger, and I still was not getting EQ into windowed mode. I had the same settings as I did this morning, so not sure why it changed with using Pro now either.
I also turned in preferences to Don't normalize.
Neither of those worked, so I also used Shift+ Right click (as i still could not see my titlebar) and toggled "lock size". This did nothing.
The only thing I could get to work, was I toggled the "border" option on. That allows me to see my titlebar, but alas it gives me a blue border on top of my EQ window as well.

I thought that maybe if I reset my system to before I DL'd pro, I could check the settings I had in WinEQ2 lite and redo them once I re DL'd pro, but alas even with a system restore, Pro was still on my machine.
I'd love to hear any other suggestions anyone might have.

not sure if this would help or not, but i have my desktop set to 1280x932, while i have my eq window set to 1280x904, which gives me the room at the bottom for the taskbar. there might be other settings that work as well, it's just what works best for me.

You don't need to do a system restore, and WinEQ 2 Pro is no different on your PC than WinEQ 2 Lite. That's all handled by our server.

It sounds like your WinEQ 2 window preset configurations might be out of whack. You keep saying you can't get it into windowed mode, but WinEQ 2 ensures that EQ is always running in a window. By default, launching the game will put it in a window in the "Normal" window preset, which means that the window will have a border and title bar (also a default setting). Unless you changed the default for a particular profile to open in a different window preset (e.g. full screen emulated) or changed the Normal preset to not have a border or to be full screen, the window should have already had a border (it may have just been off the screen entirely, since the window is bigger than your screen, as per your EverQuest and Windows configurations).

Lock Size is only going to change anything for you if you have the window positioned and sized how you want, and the Windows taskbar is not where you want it to be (on top of or below the window). If you can't see the window edges, it's not going to do much. It just changes the window border from being a thick, sizable border, to a thin border, and happens to change taskbar behavior as well.

If WinEQ 2 is in full screen emulation mode, you can hit sihft+alt+n to switch it to "normal" mode. If that doesn't help, you should probably delete wineq2.ini and start with fresh settings (alternatively, uninstalling WinEQ 2 would accomplish deleting that file as well).

When you enabled "Don't Normalize" did you launch a new session? That option does not affect running sessions.

I tried everything you suggested. I could not recall if I started a new session after enabling "Don't normalize" originally, but I had shut down my computer overnight, so I had started a new session today, with still no luck.
I just went ahead as you suggested, and un-installed wineq2, and re DL'd a new version. That helped, everything was right the way it was before. I'm not sure what changed, after using the Lite version, but the only thing I had done was DL'd the Pro version, and restarted a new session, consequentially having to log in that time.

Thank you for all your help Lax, and thank you for the suggestion gbishiii.
