WinEQ2 and Vista/DX10
I just picked up my new computer this morning. After doing the required updates for Windows, uninstalling McAfee and installing a reliable AV, I download and install WinEQ2. When I run it however, it says it requires the latest version of Dx9c and gives options to cancel or go to the MS website to get Dx9c. Is there a workaround for this? I'm sorry if it's been covered previously, I spent a good deal of time looking through these forums for something relevant.
You can probably find the answer by searching these forums for both the keywords vista, and directx. Here it is:
Download and install as it has instructed.
Windows Vista ships with DirectX 10, this is true. However, it does NOT ship wit the latest version of DirectX 9, which is separate from DirectX 10 (when you install DirectX 9 updates, it will not affect your DirectX 10 installation). This confusion is kind of the fault of Microsoft. They release minor DirectX 9 updates every other month. WinEQ 2 requires the April 2006, or later, update to DX9. The latest update to DX9 (as of now) is from August 2007. DirectX 9.0c itself is years old now, but that's not what is required. What's required is the latest updates.
