Blank World EQ1

Post by ronis » Thu Oct 04, 2007 3:02 pm

Preface: Logging into EQ1 via their update I can play just fine, no problems

However, when I log into EQ via WinEQ2Pro, Im getting black or gray environment. I can see my own UI (both default and custom) as well as PCs and NPCs, campfires, and doors. I cant see anything else. The non-UI portion of the screen is just black or gray. Same problem exists on the char select screen - my characters and selection window are good, but the surrounding area is grayed or black.

Its repeatable on 2 computers on 2 different accounts. Ive updated wineq, restarted computers, complete patched, etc.

EQ1 runs fine so long as I dont try and launch from WinEQ2Pro. I dont get it, but my uneducated guess is it may have something to do with their implementing the new Copy Layout Window (tho I have not used it).

I get NO WinEQ2Pro error messages.

Ill post info if needed but wasnt sure if this is a known issue yet.

I get the same thing. A work-around is to toggle EQ button->Options->Display->Advanced->Use Advanced Lighting off and back on. It cleared it up for me. It is only temporary though, because it comes back next login.

It works, I havent tried boxing but IT WORKS.

My assumption is that this is a problem on the Sony End, but interesting how it only happens to me when running WinEQ2Pro.

Go Figure

I've verified this bug, and I'm doing testing to see if I can find the issue. It is definitely related to the advanced lighting setting. With any luck I should have this fixed today.

Lax, you and your team are fantastic. Your speedy response to problems has amazed me over and over. And, fixing Sony's problems go way beyond my expectation.

I appreciate riboui for the work around.

This problem is posted on the tech support forum on the EQPlayers website. It seems to mainly affect 8 series GPUs. Im sure Sony will repatch to fix it and both make the problem worse as well as break other features as well.

Getting same thing here too, and the work-around fixes it fine. ATI Radeon X800 XT graphics card if that helps.

Only happens when I run EQ with WinEQ, so I guess its some strange interaction going on.

This was also an issue with the Beta servers, using EQ's own client. Advanced Lighting toggle was the fix there as well.

The issue also produces a very weird look and feel to some textures in game, like hills in Direwind, like looking at a photo negative. I believe it's all related to the new EQGraphicsDX9.dll that got pushed to Live with yesterday's patch, and the way it interacts with the WinEQ client.

As an addendum to my earlier post, Ive also noticed texture problems. Colors being off, textures flashing, etc. I know this is probably not related to WinEQ2Pro, but more information can always help Lax troubleshoot if the problem is on the WinEQ2Pro side.

Similar problem solving but with ingame problem

Post by Sport » Sat Oct 06, 2007 2:16 pm

I had similar problems with video but only after logging into game. The screen would be black except for avatars and lighting sources. I also turned off advanced lighting and the picture came back correctly. Didn't think about turning it back on to see if it came back. Will have to try that next time. )) Good luck all.

My probelms are worse now. Toggling Advanced Lighting fixes the issue and I can see for about half a second now before the world goes completely dark again.
