Missing geometry and screen flickering

Post by JJ Rodriguez » Fri Nov 10, 2006 4:26 pm

When using WinEQ2 for Everquest 1, a lot of my textures appear to be missing. Also, I notice my screen flickering. EQ does not do this when running without WinEQ2, and it also did not do this until I subscribed to the paid version. Is anyone else experiencing any issues with this? Missing textures would usually mean low memory, but EQ doesn't do this unless WinEQ is loaded.

More specifically, missing textures indicate low texture memory, which is shared video card and system RAM. If you can make the issue happen, then right click on the game window's title bar and select "Get System Info" and paste the results here, this will be easier for myself or another user to help you with your issue

I don't understand why WinEQ would make EQ use more texture memory than running without EQplaynice running. Is there some setting to make it use my texture memory better or something? Like I said, this only happened once I upgraded. Here's the file you requested.

It really doesnt use any more texture memory.

According to your system info, you have plenty of texture memory remaining (Available Texture Memory: 346MB), so that must not be the issue here -- unless the posted info was not generated by clicking Get System Info while textures were missing. I've never heard of missing textures for any other reason, though. If you're sure it has something to do with WinEQ 2 Pro vs Lite, make a second Lavish account for testing purposes and leave it Lite, switch to that account via the "Lavish Software Login" selection from the WinEQ 2 menu, and restart WinEQ 2. If you are correct, then the problem will disappear when using the Lite account, and reappear when you switch back to the Pro account.

I suspect, however, that this is caused by an EQ1 texture memory usage bug that I've heard users speak of. If you haven't rebooted, try doing so first.

I've rebooted and reinstalled EQ twice before I figured out it was WinEQ. Making a second account now.

Err now that I re-read your post, I see that you're saying "missing geometry" whereas my brain was reading "missing" and filling in "textures" and ignoring the part about flickering, which clearly points out what the problem is.

I will heartily assume that you are simply seeing the Rendering Limiting feature of EQPlayNice Pro, which is intended for background sessions (e.g. while EQ is not in the foreground) to stop rendering the world, except for about once per second. The reason you are seeing it in the foreground is that your EQPlayNice is apparently set to render 1 in 3 (one third of the time) in the forergound, instead of 1 in 1 (all of the time). Go into WinEQ 2 Preferences, and under EQPlayNice, for the Forergound, set the rendering limit number to 1 instead of 3

Well that fixed it, thanks :) I thought EQ Play Nice would have worked in the lite version too, didn't know it was one of the features of Pro.

:) Only the coolest features of EQPlayNice are reserved for the Pro version.
