Direct X 9 April Update Question

Post by Zarchanalin » Thu Jul 20, 2006 6:09 pm

Is there any way to turn of the check for the DirectX 9 April update? I'm running on Vista and it's finding that update to not be there, which it won't as I'm running DirectX 10. So, if there's a way to make it stop checking for that update that would be great.

All it does is check for D3DX9_30.dll to be installed, which should be in %SYSTEM% (which in XP would generally be c:\windows\system32\). Regardless of whether you have DirectX 10 or not, the April 2006 update to DirectX 9 *is* required, because this file must exist in order to for WinEQ 2 (or EverQuest 1 itself, for that matter) to launch, even if the check was disabled.

Anyway, if the file resides somewhere else in Vista, find it and let me know. It would be with the rest of the Direct3D9 files (d3d9.dll and so on). If you dont have it, you MUST get the required update. If it's somewhere else, you can get around the check by copying it to the system32 folder. I will change the check so that it simply tries to load the DLL instead of looking for it itself, but I won't be able to make this change until Sunday or Monday.

DX Issue Solved

Post by Zarchanalin » Fri Jul 21, 2006 5:32 am

So I got a copy of the June 2006 DX SDK redist file and installed it, this did an update to my DX9 without touching my DX10 (the installation technically failed but it put the needed files) and so everything is good to go now, thanks.
