I had the same problem yesterday and today while trying to load WinEQ to play EQ1. First did with Win EQ 2.0. Just now installed WinEQ 2.14. No change.
I can play EQ ok without going through WinEQ.

Thank you.

Reinstalling DirectX took care of the problem for me.

Tried reinstalling both directx and my video card drivers, neither worked.

You dont need to reinstall anything, you just need the DirectX update.

do you own ANY comps without a "haxxed" copy of xp?

im in the same boat as you. i have 4 comps, 3 are "haxxed" xp. one is genuine.

all i did was use the legit one to verify the authinticity of xp then instead of clicking "run" for dx, i clicked save. save the file to hard disk then run. then on the network i just grabbed that file, and ran it on all the "haxxed" ones and everything was cool :)

If you have illicit copies of your operating system, you should be prepared to get illicit copies of updates for it as well. I can't really help you with that, it's none of my business and I certainly don't condone it.

However, you CAN download the latest DirectX end-user runtimes, as can be packaged on game CDs and stuff, here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... layLang=en
You have to install it to a location and then run an installer from that location
