I'm a happy customer. I have to admit I'm a little concerned when I see this comment in the latest developer letter:
I won't go into detail, but I'd like to encourage anyone playing outside the natural boundaries of EverQuest to get back in those boundaries.

I'm no technical guru but it would seem to me that the WinEQ/EQPlayNice products define the boundaries while not intruding?
My wife is very concerned since we have mega hours invested in our accounts.
I know you're a developer and not a lawyer but any assurances would be nice LAX...

The developer letter specifically refers to "hacks and exploits", which WinEQ and EQPlayNice are neither. EQPlayNice has long since been unofficially approved by SOE at a summit last year (they dont officially approve any app because they are "not a business of evaluating third-party software", which was what I was told when I asked them to approve EQWatcher the log parser a few years ago, and they actually asked me to stop distributing it too. However, EQWatcher was later also unofficially approved in a comment by Scott Hartsman).

1. EQWindows (and thus WinEQ): Original link on the official EQ forums is gone, but here's a reference from 2003 with a quote:

What they are really talking about in the hack/exploit message is stuff like MacroQuest and hacks that give your character abilities he shouldnt have, etc. For example, warping around the zone, being able to modify the client so that you could kill something (including very high value targets) without a chance of dying, etc. I'm not in the business of proliferating that

Thank you sir. I'm satisfied.
SOE should have you on their R&D team...

Best part about those links:

That said - Audible tell notifications is a pretty cool idea for an in-game option...
