Black Screen issue

Post by Morrhigan » Sat Jul 16, 2005 8:33 pm

Hi there!

Lately i am having problems when 3 boxing in EQ 1. When running around in zones with many ppls, like POK, one toon almost always keeps getting a black screen. I still can watch with my other toon when moving around or camping, just when i switch to this toon, the screen keeps black, even after zoning, no matter what i do.

Only relogging all 3 helps. Even when i just run around with 1 toon in a zone with many ppl, this or any other toons screen turns black, mostly right after zoning. I tried it with WinEQ 1.38 as well as with WinEQ 2.08, same result. Even downloaded the latest drivers, didnt help. Or is it a prob that i am not using the original ATI drivers?

I always thought its a RAM issue, so i put another 512MB into the system, still no help. Even assigned 512MB in the BIOS for the grphic card...

Any ideas would be very appreciated. Thx.

Hmmmm, well, I would definitely try the ATI Catalyst drivers, if not only to see if you get the same issue. The only other issue I can see is simply that you are using Windows 2000, rather than XP, and that could be a part of the problem as well (could be something like, only an issue with omega drivers on Windows 2000, etc).

Hmmmm, well, I guess you have been right again :p All is working fine with Catalyst drivers and i am pretty sure, i found the problem.

I was boxing in WoS last night and for the first time ever i got the "Warning: Low System Memory" message. A /who showed more than 120 players in zone since 2 raid forces were gathering. So the player number was pretty much like PoK and my guess is that whenever this message was displayed while i was running around in a zone with many players the Omega driver screwed up (or maybe its just the combination of Omega and Win2k etc. cant confirm) and the screen on this toon turned black. I am getting this message now also when running around in PoK at prime time.

Just my guess and jfyi.

Thx tho Lax.

Interesting. There was an issue with the WinEQ 2 overlay text before, but it was actually just a lag issue and only on NVIDIA. The driver version wasnt the issue, but it was something with the drivers that was corrupted or something. Uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers, even the same version, solved the issue.

If that's also the case here, you might be able to run the Omega drivers after all.
