Hi I have just downloaded the winEQ2 program and already very excited about it...even before I have seen what it can really do....for starters I wish to just play 2 sessions but running out of physical memory fast. Im not very computer technically gifted so I would love to have/need a very precice walkthrough on what to do. Im aware that there might be alot of outside EQ procceces I can turn off but not sure which. Heres my system info :

Everquest 1: Too much memory used....what to do?

Howdy. The most important pieces of information from sysinfo for your issue are the following:
1. System Physical RAM: 131/1022MB
This shows us that we have 1GB of RAM to work with, and that at the time the information was generated, there was 131MB remaining
2. Available Texture Memory: 76MB
When this runs out, no more textures can be loaded and you'll see white textures -- not incredibly important for this, but good to know. You can increase this number by increasing AGP Aperture Size in BIOS, but if you're running low on system RAM you can't really do that safely (so it's fine that this number is low. I'm assuming that your AGP Aperture Size is set low)
3. Luclin models: 22 (+110 min RAM)
This shows that you have 22 luclin models enabled, out of 27. This is the single largest factor in the amount of RAM EQ uses per session, so if you can turn off all unnecessary models (necessary ones may be elementals/horses + your race)
4. Dynamic Lighting: ON (+4 min RAM)
While not a huge difference, disabling this setting would free up a little more
5. Texture Quality: MEDIUM (+30 min RAM)
Texture Quality is pretty weak, you could probably drop it to low and not notice much of a difference visually, but would free up some more RAM
6. Calculated minimum RAM: 427MB (BASE+144MB)
This number shows how much, bare minimum, you need just to enter the game from character selection. It actually goes up as you move around, because new textures will get loaded (the lag you would notice when turning with the mouse is a side effect of loading new textures). I'd probably recommend putting aside another 50MB or so per session, over the calculated minimum.
I cant really help much with your running programs, other than to say anything that you know you dont need, you can close. You should be aware that two of 477MB (427+50) just barely fit into 1GB, so you should be running less than about 60-70MB of extra programs if you want to use your current EQ settings -- not easy to do. It would be far easier to drop a few extra models and/or lower texture quality.
Past that, you could of course add more system RAM, but I always recommend trying to change a few settings with what you have before deciding to purchase new hardware (and the settings are what most people want to deal with anyway).

I'm actually having this exact problem running on 1 gig of ram. Several days ago I could run one instance of WinEQ with all the good stuff turned on, then start a second and turn off all the luclin models and drop graphics to low and it would work great. Then my server (terris thule) got merged with prexus and that was the end of 2boxing. Everytime I log on a single character no matter how barebones I make it, I wind up with less then 350 ram left and starting a second is out of the question. I have two seperate computers that I do this on now neither can handle more then one EQ operation running at a time.
re
ive been doing the exact same thing The only different thing i have in the first poster's setting is that i have a nvidia geforce 6800 as my graphics card, and i frequently show 30% remaining or less memory. I turned everything off on my second account, and also made a second eq directory, with absolutely no luck.
