wineq 2.07 not running
i have followed the guide to the letter and have had others who run EQ in wineq pro go over it with me. when i click the shortcut created nothing happens. please help
Well, here's what I can tell you without having more information.
1. WinEQ 2 will not close itself without producing an popup message that explains why.
2. The first thing required by WinEQ 2 is Windows 2000 or later (XP, etc). The message that pops up if you run anything earlier is "WinEQ 2.0 requires Windows 2000 or later. Windows 98 and ME users may still use WinEQ 1.38 for EverQuest."
3. If WinEQ is already running, it pops up this message "WinEQ2 detected it is already running!"
4. If WinEQ cannot create the hidden window that is required for handling windows stuff, it will say "Could not register window class" or "Could not create dummy window"
Past that, WinEQ is allowed to run no matter what. If you run it, and it does not appear in task manager's process list (hit CTRL+ALT+DEL, look in the Processes list, and it should appear as WinEQ2.exe), then something on your system must have caused it to crash silently.
If it does appear in the process list, then it's probably running fine: WinEQ 2 does have a patching process when it first starts up, before adding the icon to your system tray. If you have a slow connection (or, a slow connection to our server), this might take a minute or two. Usually you will see some windows pop up in the upper middle of your screen with a file progress.
If this doesn't help, let me know what version of Windows you're using. You should also scan for viruses and spyware, and try systematically shutting down other running programs. It's possible that any of these may be interfering with WinEQ, and if you find a legitimate program that interferes, let me know and I'll try to solve the problem. WinEQ 2 will at the very least appear in your system tray and work correctly, on any clean Windows XP machine, with or without the latest service pack. Windows XP Service Pack 2 is required for some games to work correctly with WinEQ, and is highly recommended.
